If you could turn the clock back and you had 2k to spend on an ebike, which one would you go for?

Btw do you know anything about saddles, need a big comfy one for my oversize rear…

I wouldn't spend £2K on a bike. I simply wouldn't have the money. I've seen some very nice Haibikes, but I wouldn't spend that much.

I can't compare Haibikes to the Oxygen, but it is very good.

Saddles are a very personal thing. I have Lookins on my bikes (luckily the Oxygen came with one) and they suit my backside. Some swear by Brooks saddles. I swear at them!!! Be prepared to try out a few different ones before you arrive at one that suits you.

Which brand and type of crank drive do you favour?
Right now if I was in the market I'd probably buy a Yamaha crank drive bike. I currently ride a classic Bosch, but the lack of serviceability of the motor has put me off Bosch.
However the Yamaha motors may also be hard to get parts for.

Hmm, service and spares are high on my priority list, how are spares for the hub motors?

hub motors need regreasing around every 4,000 miles, more frequent if you ride in rain a lot. Beside the grease, the serviceable parts are cheap: 4 ball bearings about £3 apiece and the clutch unit costs about £20 to replace. The clutch unit can last 10,000 miles. About the cheapest running cost you'll find.

the Sunbear is the one with the hub gearbox. A new wheel with Nexus-7 gearbox costs about £80. These gearboxes will last more than 10 years.

IIRC, woosh sell the Big Bear motor wheel for £140, replacement 36V 15AH battery Samsung cells (10S5P Samsung 29E) for £345.

BTW I may opt for the big bear despite the gear system as on the flat I suspect it could perform well between two gears.

I found a video of a heavy guy whizzing up a steep hill without peddling on a big bear

What a typical self-intrest rubbish ebike video.

Leigh Ping give them some advice.

Trex what was there to like, he might have well been on a horse

It wasn't easy to find the video on youtube, I think it could of done with a bit of editing.

I don't know why manufacturers don't make polished vids of their bikes, they could get some tips from the mobile phone reviews on youtube.

In the YT video defence not so easy to make a video on your own more of a two man job.

If you're not careful Andy, someone will come along and tell you that what you need is bike XYZ and that it's worth every penny of the £4500 price tag.

Have you ridden any yet?

Tom
My Delite is worth the price tag, but as with any bike it's a personal thing.

If it's an informative video then there is never a problem.
However, encouraging a purchase without a trial ride by the customer is not a good policy, for the retailer or the purchaser.
All a retailer gains is an increased chance of a customer buying the wrong bike and then either tolerating a poor decision or returning the bike (a massive pain and costly).
Informative videos are an excellent addition to any website but purchasing on the basis of simply watching a video of someone else riding is not the best strategy.
I'd always recommend a test ride, to reassure both the customer and the retailer.

woosh can put new customers in touch with old customers in the area to test ride the bike they like to buy. Just ask.

I'm not sure I'm going to buy an ebike. They are expensive and there is not a 3 year warranty and extended warranty options. However, I do know someone who had one for over ten years with a lead acid battery, and sold working for £450 a few years ago. If the Impulse II motors did not have bad reputation, I would have bought one for £1600 already. The Bosch equivalent specs cost £2250. I want one for five years minimum and warranty insurance puts out of my price range. I expect I will just hire one or wait a few years when with my age I may need one. Born too soon to wait forever.

Buy a woosh or whisper for less than a grand, get over 2 years out of it then buy another for less than a grand and hay presto you have over 4 years cycling for less than the bosh price.
And the first bike might do 5 years anyway :D

D8ve, I really do not like to criticise as you are normally very knowledgeable but you have failed here.

In the case of perseus this is the clear answer from all his posts, and I am surprised you of all people did not recommend this to start with!

Such a looker, in the price range and modern.
