Any thoughts on the gtech ebike?
http://www.gtech.co.uk/ebike.html

I like it's lightweight and oil free (bc has carbon belt...is this ok?) And like also the discrete battery

I'm concerned about no gears if riding without assist
Also assist seems limited to assist only and no auto cruise throttle
Also wondering if once I add a pannier and front basket and lights will it weigh a lot anyway (but perhaps still much less than the ,23-25kg models I've seen)

Anyone tried one?
I've never ridden carbon belt
And never single speed
Need to find a dealer and go for a ride

It's OK as long as you're not heavy and/or have steep hills and/or you can't pedal very hard.

16 miles should be OK when the battery is new, but it'll probably struggle after a year of use.

I am heavy, hence the need for an electric bike! So maybe that one was too overly simplistic.

I'm drooling over this description, but it's triple my budget and based in US.
Would love to find a UK equivalent

looks lighter weight (as far as ebikes go)
lowish step through
8 gear
belt drive (would love to have no oil, so either belt or completely enclosed)
vintage aesthetic
can add all accessories i'd want to put on (pannier, front rack, lights)

Look at bikes like the Raleigh Captus. About 1500 , Bosch motor, fully equipped, battery the same size as that model. The chain is virtually enclosed. The current Bosch uses a much smaller chain wheel making it easier to enclose. Oiling a chain? Probably every six months and 5 minutes. Sturdy will take up to 120kg load. I am not on Raleigh s payroll! but can suggest that it is probably one of the better bargains from a major manufacturer. I think it's stylish, and it not I have received favourable comments.

A very good bike but no fitted lights and a little over the stated budget with RRP of £1750. Full spec here https://powerbikes.uk/shop/e-bikes/style/step-through/raleigh-captus-low-step-black/

If you want it with lights, bigger battery and suspension seat post the Motus version is £2k

If you're talking Raleigh I've got the Array on offer at the moment at £999 which ticks all the boxes. Walk assist throttle will also help push the bike up the stairs.

I didn't realise that the Captus no longer has lights,.. I feel sure that when I bought my Motus last year the only differences between the two were smaller battery ,cable brakes , and a different model on the gears. They then upped the spec on the Captus to include hydraulic brakes...anyway lights can be fitted for 15quid. .

Both have hydraulic brakes now so the only differences are gears, lights, battery, seat and handle bars.
The Motus is a very popular bike! But I'm digressing from the original topic now :D
