i have a gt aggressor comp 2020 model im looking to buy a bafang bbs02b kit and install it i have no clue what to do and chain ring sizes and teeth etc and some installing it near me would be alot easier for me. my bike has 34teeth but im possibly looking to trade my bike in for another one as it needs new brake pads, chain and cogs as they are worn out and i dont want to pay 800 for the kit and then the bike fully brake. mechanic will be paid i live in rainhill, L35 8PA. would be interested in kit this upcoming december but would like to know everything in advanced

You might be better off selling that aluminium frame as you say and looking for a steel one as they are stronger. My ebike is 20+ yr old Halfords Apollo conversion, get on FB market/gumtree or for less hassle just buy a cheapo Halfords steel frame?

In the UK the kit you're looking at is illegal as 250W / 15.5mph is legal limit, that kit is 750W, not an issue for most ppl incl myself but do be aware of that.

Have you looked at rear hubs, they are a lot cheaper and most bike mechanics are able to fit them and a battery holder for you, all you need to do is plug'n'play the cables and tidy them up in a bag, not hard to do.

What do you intend to use the bike for?

If you want to sell your bike because brake pads and transmission need replacing, I'm not sure a kit/conversion is for you.
With BBS motors there can be a lot of fettling needed to get the chain line right, requiring a lot of hands on.
Conversion kits are a great way to get to know your machine but you have to be prepared to 'get the spanners out' and have a go. Is that what you want?

I think your best course of action would be to part exchange your bike with Halfords against a Carrera Vengeance.

You won’t get a particularly good deal on the part exchange and the Vengeance isn’t a particularly good bike and you won’t get the mid drive you have been craving for.

But you will get a fully functional e-bike with a hub drive which is much easier to ride and maintain than a mid drive kit.

It is a reasonably priced way to get into e-bike ownership and when you have gained more experience you can upgrade either to a better bike or modify it later.

And you won’t have any problems with your chain falling off all of the time because of chain line mis alignment and indexing issues.

Also mid drives if not ridden correctly will snap or wear chains out fast as well as destroy cassettes at an alarming rate.

I can easily wear out a chain and cassette on my mid drive in less than 100 miles if I ride aggressively, which I do far too often.

If you changed to a 250W BBS01 then you might find help, either in Liverpool or perhaps north Wales. There are various community initiatives including Peleton in Liverpool, Drosi in Llangollen, CogsyGogs who pops up here now and then.

But businesses really can't touch kits that are not legal.
