Hi everyone out there living in North Devon I need the best Hill climber I can find
I have shortlisted two bikes which each have local dealers
The Raleigh motus cross bar with the Bosch crank system
And the Wisper 905 Torque with the Samsung 575 wh battery (long range)
I would appreciate your opinions
Thanks Vic.

Try as many bikes as you can, before deciding.
Strongest climbers for North Devon: Impulse 2 or the Woosh Big Bears.

Bike Higher are in North Devon The Old Chapel, Stibb Cross, Torrington, Devon EX38 8LH.
Well worth a visit.

I am originally from Bideford so I can appreciate the need for a good hill climber. Now living in the coastal part of South Wales. I have just bought an E Bike from Qwic. i have bought the folding e smart 7. I was impressed with the other bikes higher in their range. You might take a look

I haven't found any hills in North Wales that my Kalhoff and I can't cycle up yet. However its important to understand that it is not just the motor that takes you up hill, its dependent on your input as well, unless you have a throttle type - which may just stop, or go so slow you can't balance. Sorry if I'm teaching my Grandmother......

Recently test rode the Woosh Big Bear and Santana CD. In my opinion if steep hill climbing is the issue, I thought the latter was best.

Note that the bike I was commenting about is the 350W version, whereas the ones you mention are 250W - like my wife's. It seems to go up hills very well and my wife is very pleased with it, but she hasn't yet tried any really tough hills.

I tried the Pro Connect 9 at Bristol a few months ago and it’s Impulse 11 is noticeably more powerful than my Impulse 1 motor. I was able to cruise up some quite steep hills around Cotham in fourth and fifth gears with not that much effort. The gear change switch worked well too, and changes were smooth both up and down. Cheaper CD bikes need a bit of technique to change down without a motor interrupt function.

Thanks for the info, I must admit I am strongly leaning towards the
Pro connect 9 at the moment. Kalkhoff are a big company with a good
Reputation and there is an agent about 13 miles from me.
Regards Vic.

Vic, I live in South Devon, and like you needed a good hill climber. I bought a Kalkoff (focus) Thron in the end because I like green laning too. I can heartily recommend it, top quality build an excellent range, even with the big hills, I get over 50 miles easily. Just swallow hard when you get the bill....

for those of you who don't know about this very simple technique to interrupt the motor before changing gear, the technique consists of briefly blipping one of the two brake levers before one shifts to a low gear number like 3 or 2 or 1. You only need to slightly queeze the brake lever for about 5mm to activate the brake sensor, thus cutting out the motor. Shifting to a higher gear number does not need this.
If anybody needs a gear sensor switch for their CD bike, woosh can fit their 3D printed gear sensor switch in place of the right hand brake sensor. The sensor costs very little to print, they will only charge you for labour.
The Krieger and Santana CD have roughly 50% more climbing power and range than John's Woosh CD. The bottle battery went from 9AH to 15AH and the controller went from 14A to 20A.

Bike Higher have e Kudos Tornado available for test fitted with the BPM high torque motor, most consider any bike fitted with that motor as the best hill climber around.
There are derivatives of the Tornado, the Typhoon and ARRIBA but a test on the Tornado will confirm whether it is what you are looking for,not expensive at £1095.00.

Did you look at the P-RD9s from their performance range? I am quite curios about this bike but the brand does not yet seem to have much of a UK presence or many sales outlets. I'm not sure if that bike is an S pedelec Qwic seems to have omitted the motor wattage from their specification page. The bike looks quite striking in its Dutch Orange paintwork.
