I recently asked about a mystery component on the {lead acid} battery box of my ancient Powabyke . On the outside of the box is a large screw head of the type you would unscrew with a coin . This is not mentioned in the instruction book , but it appears in photos of many early models including the shopper . Yesterday , I unscrewed it . It is actually a circular cover , and underneath is a four pin socket . Its purpose remains a mystery . Is it for plugging in some kind of diagnosis equipment ?

Two of the pins connect to the terminals of the middle battery, one of the pins connects to the +ve terminal of an end battery, the last pin connects to the -ve of the remaining battery.

Presumably it is for testing individual batteries, you could also charge the batteries individually (though not all three simultaneously) at 12V instead of 36V. You could also use it to tap off 12v to run an accessory in a pinch.

I took these photos ages ago, the connector is hidden behind the battery standing on its end.

That socket's for the optional flux capacitor. If you Google "flux capacitor" you can find out all about them, or here's a video of one a guy made himself:

Check Battery case wiring diagram, MkII battery fitting and changing cells section 2a and it tells you that it is a battery test connection point, it is one of the items I emailed to you. John
