Hi, am looking for a bike between £300 and £500 as a base for either a BBS02 or BBSHD with a 48v Dolphin style Battery.
Have looked at a Saracen Mantra 2016, but these have a 73mm Bottom Bracket, not sure if this would be borderline size wise?
Any direction from someone who has built something trail capable, in this price range, in the last couple of years would be gladly received,

Cheers,

Gareth

the Boardman bikes at Halfords look good and some offers on at moment. However not sure if they are suitable for conversion

The older Rocky Mountains are very good. They come up on Ebay occasionally. I got this one for about £500 locally:

and this one as a frame for about £150

Hi Dave, thanks for the idea, but I'm looking for something new, with a hardtail. I'm not sure I could build a bike from the frame up, but could tackle putting the mid drive kit together. Have read Spinning magnets piece on bottom brackets and finding something suitable is a major concern .
Also, l live on an island,so sending things back and forth,if I get it wrong, will be very costly and time consuming.

73mm bb works fine with bbs, my cube ams is ok with this, just means in most cases one lock nut and its never come loose yet.

+1 for Carrera bikes. Time it right & there are some real bargains to be had at Halfords. Buy Cycling UK membership to get an additional 10% discount.
