Motor keeps dropping out

350w motor keeps dropping out. The LCD speed freezes at the current speed and power drops. After 1 to up to 5 seconds it resets and power returns.
Replaced the LCD, throttle (as have seen the L01 fault code one or two times) and reset the brakes incase they were cutting out the motor, as well as cleaning and resetting the PAS disk. Seems to occur when going up hill and the whole system is working harder. It's a GTWO 26" ELECTRIC mountain bike and has worked well for over 3 years. I have 2 batteries and they both seem to be in good order.

Any advice on what to try next greatly appreciated.

My NCM Paris Folder power failed intermittently and was cured by replacing the Controller .

The clue to Kevin's issue is' it occurs when going up hill' .
The controller works harder and also means it gets hotter or one should say the mosfets are operating nearer their max temperature. Riding speed is important the slower one rides when ascending then the more the controller will heat up.
Thermal cut out is the likely scenario which one is experiencing or poor phase connection from controller to motor.

When ascending one has to keep the speed up, the slower one goes the more torque and power the controller has to compensate for . This in turn means more heat.
Ideally one needs to aim for 8 -12mph to mitgate cut outs.

In my case I opted for a 9 mosfet controller over the 6 mosfet one I was using to solve the issue.

Many thanks again Nealh I suspected that may be a cause. The bike is 3 years old and well used as I live at the top of a hill and it has only started to do this in the last few months, the controller is contained in the battery compartment so susceptible to overheating. Would a new controller fix it?

You should watch the battery level shown on the LCD when it happens. If it shows that the battery goes down, it's probably a tired battery. If it says high, a temperature issue is more likely.

Good point there d8veh , I forgot about the battery age so yes it could be due to battery sag esp more so if the voltage is quite low.

3 years of hard work is pretty good going for a cheap bike. Maybe look for something new.
Pricing these days is certainly better for what you get
