since the lockdown I have never seen so many cyclists on the road in my life, which is a good thing. just wonder if quite a few have bought bikes just recently just to get them out, also the good weather helps a lot. have not seen many ebikes, which i thought i would.

Loads more it's true. Lots of families out, many of whom don't see too confident to me. Another thing I've noticed is that significant number of road bikers do not wear any form of high viz. In fact I've seen not a few dressed all in black! What's that all about then?
I followed someone the other day, I shouted to her that I would stay behind until it was safe to overtake. So I noticed that she did not have a mirror & when she tried to take her hand of the handlebar to signal she had no control & could not turn her head to look behind. I just hope that she got home safely.
Yes, lots of new cyclists round my way now. It's flat here, with cycleways, hardly any traffic on the road and good weather. Quite a few 'gaggles' of families making their way around. Can you blame them? I think the black clothing issue is some sort of macho statement. In the winter, with one small light at the back and all-black Lycra, it's scary. To be honest, I used to be reluctant to wear high vis stuff, as I thought I looked a prat. Now I am older, I can accept that I am a prat, and wear bright things.
Yes I’ve seen many out in these fantastic grey coloured jerseys which blend in so well.
At least there’s is one pro side for them wearing these grey/black colours etc., when their families look into their coffin they will look super smart lying there.

Of course with Gerraint being worshipped as a local god (happens to all succesful Welsh sportsmen and women) there's an increase in MAMILS as well. Most of them can't even raise a grunt as they pass, let alone say hello. I think it's 'cos there's no blood left in their head, that's why they have to try and get it below their hips.

We've got those here as well, but I didn't know they had a name! I had to look that one up, like 'budgie smugglers' when I saw it on a post on YouTube, on the Talking Spain site. Certainly are more people on new bikes, and the shops are running out.

I’ve been given the task of finding her a bike on a budget, the cheapest bikes from the likes of Argos and Halfords are out of stock and local second hand bikes are selling for twice the price they would have done a month ago.
for now she’s using one of my bikes but It’s a little bigger than she needed

yet you would think some of these roadies would wear yellow hi viz as they fancy themselves as tour de france wannabees
My reason for leaving off the reflective vest for a few days was to avoid standing out too much if the local Plod was looking for Crisps in your shopping to give a lecture on unneccessary purchases . I did however stretch a yellow waterproof cover over the bag on the rear rack to be partly seen . After seeing my Brother ahead of me in a stealthy brown coat looking virtually invisible , I changed my mind . I now proudly stand out again in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Wales and will take my punishment proudly if meted out under the new Stasi Plus Lockdown Rules .
I read a motorcycle and cycle report a couple of years ago saying that wearing hi viz made no difference to accident statistics.
When driving, someone in hi viz catches my eye over a much greater distance, hence I will continue to wear it whilst on the bike.
I have seen loads more bikes around than I used to. I have been going out riding most days since last July and I generally saw the same few people every day.
Now I see 10 times as many
To confirm this I was in the local bike shop a few days ago and he is up to his neck in business. He has filled and emptied his whole showroom 4 times so far. When it empties again he won;t be able to fill it as there are no bikes left to buy as the factories are closed
Also - he is repairing 40-50 bikes a day as people are dragging them out of shed and wanting them getting back into shape
Which explains the number of bikes on the road - and the number of familes
