I tried a couple of mirrors (including mirricyle on my brompton) until i settled on the Cateye BM 500G. I've got through three (i'll try Fleccs re-inforcer, sounds better than the botches i've done)

The visibiltiy on the 500G is the best on the market, once you get used to it you cant go back.

re racks. Decide how much weight you want to carry then buy one that's appropriate. If your not moving heavy loads get a light rack. Racks are often sold second hand so check out places like CTC.

Mini review of the Mirrcycle mirror

I bought one from St John Street Cycles - The UK's largest tandem & touring cycle specialist and it arrived quickly and well packaged. Perhaps the instructions have changed but I had no problem fitting it in a few minutes. I've only gone a few miles with it but it works nicely - good view, easily adjustable on the move, doesn't vibrate and doesn't slip. The view isn't as complete as with a motorbike mirror as it's not as big, but it still gives a good view of what's coming up behind you.

Time (and distance!) will tell if it lasts.

Thanks for the various tips and comments.

I've riden a few more miles now, and over some pretty bumpy ground, and the mirror is excellent - it doesn't move at all and yet it folds out of the way if you bang it against a doorpost

It's easy to adjust on the go, stays in place, and doesn't shake at all - 10/10.
