Went for a ride today rode 21 miles to Cranleigh then took the Downs Link to Shoreham then on to Brighton and home again a very pleasant 87 miles.
Passing the train carriage at West Grinstead's old station I saw a man sat at the picnic bench and as I passed saw the battery, so I turned around and went to ya hello.
Martin was his name and he had come up from Worthing, quite new to e bikes this was only his 5th outing. His was a 2016 Giant Full E in bright orange with Yamaha drive, 500wh battery and dropper post. At 2.5k not cheap though 1.5k cheaper then the new all change 2017 model. I asked which way he was going so gained a riding partner down to Shoreham, which made a change from riding solo. I usually ride as fast as I can however Martin was happy at tootling along at 11/2 mph on the rougher surface so I was happy to follow suit and ride along side. One thing we both noticed was how my hub bike freewheeled quite happily along, I was peddling approx. 1 rotation compared to about 6 or 7 of the Giant and I had to lightly apply the brakes to prevent me surging ahead.

On the Downs Link after crossing A283 at Bramber .

That's an interesting observation. Is that always the case with crank drive bikes compared to hub bikes?

I was thinking about that comment yesterday evening whilst riding my front hubbed bike. I had to turn the assist down and up the gears to get some work out of myself. It all seemed to be far too easy.

I guess that CD e-MTB's are primarily tuned for cross country and uphill flow type riding? Attracting those that used to ride regular MTB's in that sport and now fancy a change. Or a rest from the grind. :)
