I have 3 Merida Ebikes all with Shimano motors and batteries. They are absolutely fantastic, well built, great performance and have really benefited my cycling.
I had cause recently to test the warranty on what I thought was a fairly simple matter and came away disappointed.
One of the chargers packed up, just stopped working, I changed the plug fuse but still nothing. Being still within warranty I popped it back to the shop who contacted Merida.
Merida washed their hands of the issue and said we need to contact Shimano who cover the warranty. A company called Madison deal with all UK Shimano products. Madison wouldnt take the dealers word that the charger was not working and send a courier to collect. A week later the charger was still at the shop awaiting collection. The dealer phoned regularly to be told its in the system. A month later they issued him a credit note instead of a replacement charger. Finally after 6 weeks I have my replacement charger. As it happens I had the chargers from the other bikes but if I was a solo ebike owner as many folk are my bike would of been useless for 6 weeks.
My dealer has been first rate but I'm disappointed with Merida, Ive bought 6 Merida bikes in the last 5 years but my next ebike will not be a Merida or have a Shimano motor in it
