My wife and I bought two Cube Touring Hybrid 400 bikes last month from Damian Harris Cycles (who were excellent and continue to be really helpful). Our daughter is 3 1/2 years old and we were hoping to get a Yepp or Hamax seat to carry her on my bike, but a problem with the rear rack this week has put doubt in our mind that this would be safe, even though the rack is rated to 25Kg and EN 14872.

I didn't realise there was a Classifieds section, so I've moved most of the 'sale' post to there:

I'll use this thread just to ask/confirm my plans. If I can sell my bike, I'm planning on getting a Cube Cross or Reaction hybrid. The seat posts look standard on those models so am I right in thinking a normal child seat would be ok?

Keep the bike - buy a weeride - better riding for the little one and a lot less anxiety for you ;)

might be a bit of a problem clearing the rack on the back tho with the batt in it.

would work if he got 1 of the other bikes tho and get a performance motor or cx to toe the extra weight.

id not trust any child seat tbh and get something like a weeride or trailer ;)

Our ebikes are an alternative to commuting by car and there's no space at my daughters nursery, or my work, to store a trailer, nor would I be keen using it on the road and mix of cycle paths or pedestration crossings. I've quickly learnt that provision for cyclists in town planning is quite woeful!

Edit: the alternative would be a traditional adapter which is ok for oval frames of greater than 40mm diameter, but I haven't found one yet.

Seriously man - check out the weeride - i rejected a trailer for the same reasons as you, and also didnt like not being able to see the little one or tgat all he could see was the back of me ;)

Used it on and off road - ok he hasnt done any serious down hill with me yet but have done some lightweight singletrack and canal paths etc - because he sits between your arms its safe and secure for both of you - hes learned its hikarious to turn the motor off but apart from keeping an eye for that its a pretty good solution from my perspective

+1 for carrying kids on the front. My son loved it, although I made my own seat for him.

Our daughter is too big for front mounts seats.

No buyer yet so I'm wondering about chancing the rear rack mounted seat and maybe seeing a local welder to reinforce the rack.
