the cells were flat after 1hr 35mins with the light on setting 2 the cells weigh 27 grams so there fake.

a cheap pack of ebay is 10-12 quid anyway and will no way last as long with real decent cells

the case is 9 quid and the cells 5 quid each and 10 quid for a charger if you wanted one.

If I buy the case you linked and 2 packs of the batteries you also kindly linked.. my charger will charge them and I will get a million hours of use....

Pleased I bought a Hope 4 many years ago, still going strong, gives enough light for riding 20+ mph on bridleways etc. Seems better than messing about with all this Chinese fake rubbish to me.

its 8.4v 1a on the wall adaptor i have and cut out when its was charged.

if you get the case then just rip apart the old packs you have test it and make sure.

even better if you have a multi meter and can see if its getting them up to 4.2v

Pleased I bought a Hope 4 many years ago, still going strong, gives enough light for riding 20+ mph on bridleways etc. Seems better than messing about with all this Chinese fake rubbish to me.

we want decent cells and the 4 cell pack for that light is 80 quid.

I've probably spent less than quite a few people who go through 2-3 lights per winter with multiple failures never really knowing if the light will fail / fall apart evert ride.

Phill, It depends upon how you look at it, and I truly don't mean any offence by dismissing the choice of light that others use. It all comes down to personal choice.

I personally think that a quality light is an investment worth making. As said previously, I ride about two thousand miles a year in darkness, and much of the time in very adverse conditions. Thinking about it, weekend rides aside, 8 months of the year are pretty much spent riding in complete darkness, so having a quality light makes every bit of sense.

Just a couple of quick examples.

One video still image. Had the camera been mounted on the handlebar, the beam would be further extended. I suspect that the light from Intuvia display is throwing things out.

And one static.

I can see exactly where Chris is coming from, and given the choice of lights, I can whittle it down to three.

My Fenix BT20, which does a fantastic job, and has a beam that is far superior to my pile of Ebay Cree lights with their seemingly false and wild lm claims.

Next up would be a Magicshine Eagle M2 followed by a Hope R4. Only placed that way around, because the Magicshine appeals to me more, and no other reason.

I have played with cheap lights too and still use a converted Tesco Cree 5w torch powered by 3 AA rechargeable batteries as a high power head torch to give me the ability to look where the handlebars aren't pointing. It is no substitute for the Hope!

I have read much like this before which is why I bought the 2 hope ones...£80 each and they are good ... but are the worth £160?....
I think not....
Although having said that they still perform as new at 3 years on... albeit with new batteries....

It all depends why you want the light in the first place. I was commuting and often took a 20 miles detour on the way home so a good reliable light was essential. A Hope 1 is also a very different beast to a Hope 4, OK for commuting on road but that is about all.

D8veh, so far it seems like a great bargain and 'state of the art'. A great choice for little outlay.

However..

After a long hard day at the grindstone, I'll be going out shortly for an extended bike ride. 8 miles or so around the park, which has no street-lighting.

If you don't hear from me again, may you burn for what you done to me!

Fully agree, but at the time the replaceable batteries were a good selling point.. Light was pretty bright but a bit disappointing so bought another .. Are 2 twice as good as one.. fraid not..
I like my double cree light. Its on a rubbery mount so is easy to tilt down when passing pedestrians, dogs, frogs, dear and other evening acquaintances that dont like being blinded, and has a big button that's easy to push to change modes/brightness/turn off.
I am going to try SW,s battery box and cell suggestions for a longer run time..
