It has been getting a bit dark lately and my attention has shifted from traction to lighting. It really bugs me to carry lighting batteries when I've got a fat lithium behind me. My lights are 6V LED so I've installed one of these in a diecast box:

...and it took just a week to arrive. The strobe of the LED lights makes it whistle a bit but it runs cool. Quiescent is 40mA @36V, measured efficiency 86% at 6W. Not too bad.

I know it's overkill for lighting, but I hope it'll last. Max i/p is 48V (Caps are rated at 50V). I've varnished the PCB and secured the toroid and caps with silicone.

How does everyone else light up ?

The most simple and reliable way is with a T6 XML torch and a handlebar clip.
UltraFire 1800LM CREE XML T6 LED Zoomable Zoom Flashlight Torch +18650 + Charger | eBay

The next level is these, which are bright enough to light up unlit cycle paths:
CREE XM-L XML T6 LED Bicycle bike Head Light Headlamp Rechargeable Head Light | eBay

Then there's the three LED ones which are more light than you need:
3x CREE XM-L T6 LED Bicycle Bike HeadLight Headlamp Light UK | eBay

There's also four and 5 LED versions. Don't waste your money on any front light that isn't a Cree T6 X-ML LED.
Or you can go for the blitz with 16 LEDs:

The full off-road caboodle :) :

... all run off 36V battery across handlebar high/low beam switch

27W headlight (stepped down to 20V)
Triple spotlight (runs off 36V)
Single CREE T6 (can swap out for triple CREE T6) (stepped down to 9V)

But how are you stepping down the voltage? Are you using a device like the OPs gizmo?

Look at the third photo. A veritable work of art! If you read back through the thread, there's a full explanation showing the dc-dc converters. Reading the full details of the build should be an inspiration to anybody who doubts their competence. Alex started with no relevant technical knowledge or skills.

Thanks - identifying the relevant threads on here is nigh on impossible at times!

So with the factory fitted lights on say the Bosch bikes are the light units 36v then?
