Lightest mid motor ebike kit

The Bosch system is 2.9kg for the motor, and 3.5kg for the battery, though the battery is 625wh. I think probably find its closer to 7kg the lot, if you include all the other bits, display,wiring etc.

So they're claiming 4kg, 1.75kg for the motor, leaving 2.25kg for the battery, though thats only a 250wh.

I think it's just really a matter of time before the massive amount of money being invested in battery.motor tech, all the weights are going to come down.

But what you have to ask is does lower weight equal similar robustness ?

The Bikee (Italian design I think) has had so many false starts in the last 18m /2yrs it seems to be like the other start ups, slow getting to the market and then quite expenisve . Typically the design is similar to the older GNG/Cyclone motors in that the motor unit bolts to the frame and uses an idler drive shaft .

The companies other mid drive is a monster looking thing and can output 4kw approx.

Once bikes are powered I, m not convinced a couple of kg is going to be noticed. Yep, pedalling without power will obviously benefit. My current Giant is around 3kg heavier than Haibike, once underway its irrelevant. Only time I notice its heavier is when hanging it on wall after rides, when I, m worn out..
Think I, d rather have a tough, durable bike with a good range than a 3kg lighter with poorer range.
I suppose lighter weights might tempt traditional cyclists slightly more but once you, ve used ebikes I really don't think folk care about super light weight.

I don't like the rather small number of chainring teeth engaged in the chain. Problems await there.

I wouldn't touch a Sram motor as they will likely end up leaving the user high and dry, a case point with their geared hubs when they pulled out of the market .

Yes, I used to hang my bikes up but eventually bought some hoists. Slower but easier on old arms!

Likewise with their SRAM Spark dual motor rear hub, first a very poor 12 volt system, then upgraded to 16.8 volts but no better. The last of the latter were sold off through Halfords in a Carrera at £750, their first pedelec.
