I shall pop in to Lidl next week. When I'm living in Spain, I use the local Lidl quite often yet have only rarely used their stores in the UK.

Last week, I popped into the one at Letchworth and there were lots of useful bits and pieces that the major supermarkets here never carry so it's a useful store.

To be honest Eddie I find the Aldi cycling clothing, branded Crane better Lidl's although the roll top panniers and workstand from Lidl were excellent buys and still going strong;)

Letchworth, that was close shave Indaloo, I was in the village of Weston just up the hill from Letchworth on Tuesday night:eek:
Weston is the highest point in Hertfordshire, but I am sure you knew that;)

Nope, I didn't know that at all. Perhaps you're mixing me up with Amigafan who knows everything about anything you care to mention?

Indalo

No need for that.

But yes, I did know Weston is the highest point in Hertfordshire :p

Sorry, but I’m afraid have to correct you both here. Weston in Herts is fairy lowly at a height of around 146m - the highest point in Hertfordshire is at the edge of Pavis Wood in the Chiltern hills, near Tring, at around 244m. The position given in Wikipedia is SP914091, but my OS map shows a spot height of 248m nearby at SP 91160 09065. It’s also close to the highest point in Buckinghamshire. You can visit both these ‘peaks’ on this short walk, or even cycle along the Ridgeway nearby as it’s a bridleway at this point – as is much of the Ridgeway.

Hope I don’t get a reputation.

I bow to your superior knowledge jhruk:eek:

I was given the information by customer who is a resident of Weston, and as we know the customer is always right;)

In fairness to him, he may have meant or said North Hertfordshire;)

I knew this because a long term elderly neighbour has always claimed that we live at the highest point - it’s on top of a hill, though only 96m. I checked this out it when he first told me but I’ve never had the heart to disillusion him. Somehow it’s easier online.

Haha - thanks for that :)

Maybe "Weston is the highest town in Hertfordsdire" would be more accurate.

Hope I don’t get a reputation.
To late for that I'm afraid - some will already have your card marked ;-)

I live at a relatively lowly 123m in Hertfordshire (though we do get a very good TV signal from Crystal Palace as there is virtually nothing in between), but often cycle via villages in Herts that are higher than Weston: e.g. Great Offley 158m, Tea Green 158m, Cockernhoe 161m, etc.

I am sick of all this bragging from people who live up in the mountains . Here in south Lincolnshire , the highest village is Amber Hill , which towers a mighty eight feet above sea level . It was a lovely quiet place until the base jumpers started coming .

Thanks. Always worth a heads up. I had the 34 piece tool set 2 - 3 years ago and can recommend. Lots of useful tools in it.

Hi Roger,

Clearly the information I was given was incorrect and the attached document would seem to confirm that Weston is between 135 and 145m above sea level http://www.hertsdirect.org/docs/pdf/a/Area220.pdf

Some additional trivia, my home in Milton Keynes stands at a height of only 72m above sea level, we were never been able to get an analogue TV signal, Freeview was quite poor, but Freesat is perfect.
