Latest lock suggestions please for new ebike owners

I have the short Pragmasis 13mm and itys very good I think... there 2 metre one is around 6kg so not bad...not as if I'm locking it same place everyday as camper will be touring.

I have just realised that with the longer wheelbase, wispers on rack will obstruct vans rear lights a bit!...If its not one thing its another...feel like crying lol

I need 2 lighter bikes with a normal wheelbase maybe some kits are the answer......

I have just had my oxygen eMate nicked from a Kent train station it was fitted with two krypton locks, cable and d lock both gold standard. Talking to the station people they say it has happened before the thieves use a cordless angle grinder fitted with a diamond stone cutting wheel, they wait for a train to be pulling in and strike quickly. I am insured and it has been reported to the police but for my next bike I will use two Kabrus alarm locks. So the first is screaming while they try to cut the second.

That's really rotten luck. (welcome to the forum BTW). Keep your eyes pealed for the bike on eBay, listed for sale without the charger...or being sold on behalf of an Uncle etc. Its happened before.

Also keep an eye on GumTree, a lot of stolen bikes end up on there, and a fair few have been recovered.

Another method of breaching D locks is to use an expanding jack.

If possible, it's better to lock the bike in such a way that there is little room left inside the 'D' to insert the jack.

Lock it to as big a post as possible and/or use one of the thicker frame tubes on the bike.

That is tuff and very disheartening......train stations obviously not the best place to leave a bike day in day out.. All you can do is take the seat and battery with you to limit the appeal and have insurance

Rob, angle grinders go through street furniture poles as well , as a motorcyclist found out . Better make it a lamp standard eg. as you suggested , the larger diameter the better . I seem to remember someone suggesting a Tracker on here . If too many Ebikes go missing I can see the Insurance Companies getting up to their tricks of finding ways to avoid paying out or increasing Premiums substantially . Like the Householder that lived 60 metres above a river and as the postcode is the same as the person down at river level , they are wanting him to pay the same !

Been going slightly bonkers trying to sort a workable portable security setup for my new Agattu C11. It's not realistic to take the battery if I leave the bike at a train station for example (or for a couple of hours outside out of sight).

It takes a 30cm D-lock to go through the back wheel from the frame - and little likelihood of fitting an immovable object in there too (so no point !). I eventually resigned myself to a chain for the back wheel. The front is quick-release so removable in theory (but in reality when you're late for a train or a meeting not necessarily in practice !). So I bought a Pinhead kit. This fitted the front - but not the back which has a very thick spoke .. far too much dosh to be realistic (so back it went !).

Toyed a D-Lock for the front wheel to frame but realized that with a 1m 11-13mm chain + Squire SS60CS would be one heck of a bundle, not to mention all those keys ..

So in the end I have just got a 1.5m 11mm chain + Squire SS60CS from Pragmasis which will go round both wheels and an immoveable object without having to take the front wheel off. I guess it's not ideal ... and I now have to invest in a rack bag to carry the blasted chain about (so I'm well over £100 there - £85 for chain/padlock plus £28-£80 for bag depending on what I can find - whole other dilemma !), but well short of 10% of cost so might just be able to afford insurance if I don't eat for a couple of weeks ).

Have I missed anything blatantly obvious here that I ought to have thought about ?

Looked into Smart Water but the annual subscription thing is extremely off-putting especially when you consider the impact on a resale. Has anyone used this on their bikes (slightly off-topic, I know ... but ... !)

Looked at the ones above but seem to get mixed reviews ... the only way I could fit the d-lock would be front wheel - frame or maybe at a push if fixed to a horizontal or multi-vertical fixing point (rather than the likes of a lamp-post) then front wheel - frame - fixing point.

Perhaps the alarmed cable round the back wheel & fixing point would be a better secondary deterrent as someone might be more likely just to cut that first and trigger the alarm before moving on to have a go at the chain having got that off ? It's hard to second-guess the mind of a thief sometimes ... for all the stuff that gets written about the subject !

The frame to wheel device will almost certainly not fit looking at the fixing on the following link ... (the frame is monstrously thick for any clamped on device or accessory !)

I have a kabrus just as a secondory beause its alarm and a krptonite as my main lock not to sensative to go in wind but if anyone touches the bike it beeps first as a warning touch again and it screams very good as a deterant

If only the Police would set up a decoy at that Station .They are doing that with Motorcycles in Nottinghamshire according to Motor Cycle News following a spate of thefts . An Ebike decoy would be easy , take out the batteries and put a Tracker and camera in the casing , give it an attractive paint finish and put a transfer on it from a high end bike .
