on the second battery now from kudos in 6months,
the dust cap fell out again and so the charging socket shorted with the rain:(
this time its only lasted a couple of weeks before the little rubber dustcap broke.

wondering where i can get replacement dustcaps that fit properly and also a new socket for the battery as the cells are completely fine.
can't afford to shell out for another one now

Hi
Any chance of some photos of your problems, see if we can help a bit.
Seems strange that a bit of water caused a big problem on the socket or did it get into the circuit board.

You should make a rain cover for the battery for peace of mind. Even a shower cap would help.

Hi Velixer, is this the battery your Dad picked up from me a few weeks ago? I havent seen this issue on any other battery on the Kudos Performance range we have sold? Has it completely come off?

The little waterproof cap is tight and awkward to fit and remove, so it's easy to break the little thread that holds it. I guess most people don't bother with it. I know I don't, but then I have no patience.

The whole design of the battery is not waterproof. The water drains down the back, through the controller compartment, and out the slot in the bottom. The controller itself is sealed, but not the connectors in there. It's not unusual to find the O-ring seals on each end of the aluminium tube missing, and water can enter the battery through the top screw holes. These batteries are OK in a shower, but not in serious rain. It's made worse by the water thrown on to it by the front wheel.

The battery on my Kudos King has survived so far, against all the odds. The top part (where the handle is) has cracked and bits broken away and I've had to cobble it back together as best I can. The material they use doesn't like Araldite, I discovered. It looks like some kind of Bakelite. Also the casing of the unit that the battery slots into broke away and when I unplugged the battery, the connector and all the wiring came away with it. Luckily, that was at the end of a trip home and an engineer pal has made a replacement holder and so far it's all still working.
