Broke down last night at 10 pm. Rare occasion I'd cycled to a works do about 10 miles away. Bike seemed to me to be going slower ish that isual but i thought I was imagining it. Got to works do and at end of evening started off when i did first pedal rotation the bike mechanism and chain area just seized. i thiught it was the usual chain coming loose and getting stuck behind the cog thing which is hellishly annoying to get to. Remove battery, remove chain guard and then get hands really dirty by trying to entice chain from jammed area. This time the accursed mud guard bolts were now seized solid for the second time. I could not even get to the chain area.

Now today i have been having to screw through (!!!!) blydi screws to get chain guard off. Aucceeded and then repositioned chain and turned pedal. Crunch crunch crunch noises. I took chain off the cog bit (front pedal big cog thing) to see if it was a dodgy chain. Nope. Crunch crunch crunch noises and resistance when i turn the pedal. The bits of metal stuff by the spider thing are all in firm solid position so nothing loose that i can actually physically see.

What could it be? Sounds serious. Am going to contact Electrifying Cycles to try and get it sorted but in meantime would appreciate expert advice?

Thanks

GRRRRRR

Taken blydi chainguard off.
Taken rhs pedal leg off.
Trying to use spider tool to turn the accursed thing so that I can get to the metal cog thing to check / replace or whatever... BUT every time i turn the spider tool everything else turns as well. I am turning it right.. The open position as it says on the spider bracket and the spider tool thing.. Eerything else turns when I try the spider tool to open so either i am doing something wrong or something is very wrong mechanically inside motor???

Help!!?

Have watched a youtube video and now removed spider and rest of emtal sprocketey cog thing.

i turn the pedal (remaining left one) and the dry metal grinding noise still happens.

What could it be.. Sounds serious to me.... :(

At a guess it sounds like you have cracked the main drive pulley.

As it is cracked and has in turn expanded. The noise you hear is probably it scraping on the inside of the motor casing.

Don't ride the bike, get it back to Electryfying Cycles where you bought it from and they will know exactly what to do.

Martin, just thinking aloud here...

Wissy has mentioned the following "the usual chain coming loose and getting stuck behind the cog thing"
If the back wheel was out of line, or the motor not mounted in line, would either of these two issues cause the problem that you are describing?

Clearly it isn't normal for a chain to repeatedly come off, so I was just wondering if an associated underlying problem might also need resolving.

It is likely to be out of line. As although more common on the classic line, I struggle to pull the chain off, I rode one most of last year, pushed it hard and rarely had the chain come off the front.

Also if the swingarm is not shaped properly it can also cause this. Sounds unlikely but I have seen brand new bikes before with poor design issues. Again unlikely on the KTM but it need not be ruled out.

Thanks everybody... I have texted and messaged Electrifyingcycles and will see what he says. Not quite sure what exactly you meant with the jargon but the chain has been coming off quite a bit but less since I figured out it was the loose spider that contributed to it and couple loose scre things that keep the cog stuck to the metal bracket behind spider seal thing (pesky annoying things those).

I immediately stopped cycling.. Well actually couldn't cycle.... Last night. Phoned him indoors (fortunately at home and not overseas yet!) and he came to get me in my vw camper. So bike has not been pedalled or moved other than lifted to van and out of van into house.

Boo Hoo... I miss my bike and even had a sulky little cry I couldn't cycle him to work for next week... Strange what they do to you! I need a spare one!!!!!

Thanks David!

I hope the mice haven't eaten the last box the bike came in.. Left it in my mum's garage. Will take bike to mum's again after work on Monday so the bike will be ready to collect Tuesday earliest, although I will need to check my mum will be in (and bike in garage for collection)

Wissy, enjoyed your Technical descriptions, if only more folks used Prof. Stanley Unwins language to describe things, and communicate.in basic Engly Twentyfido.

a 'Deep joy!'

P.s. spellchecker doesn't recognise Engly Twentyfido for some reason , perfick for computers I 'd a thought?
