Just adding on here that I was in school today at 7.05 AM.... Blydi pedelecs... Make me cycle too well!!! School didn't open doors until 7.30 am so stood about talking to sheep and white mountains. Forgot to take photos yet again as this was first proper school day cycle to work syndrome thing. 45 minutes there and 35 back even with a bit of headwind. FUN! Although nowhere for staff to park bike so that is a bit of an issue for the long term. Need to work on getting bicycle rack of sort for staff (ie me!!) at work. seems a bit silly all this C2W for us 'plebs' but not giving anything ref infrastructure fr employers??

Still... Making it a Monday and Friday target for work for now until I get more i to the flow and allow fitness to take over a bit from turbo mode (I cannot help it.. Turbo is just there begging me to use it!)

I hope you don't mind me asking Wissy......how many of all of those gears do you find you use?

I'm torn between thinking that it must be useful to have all of them to fall back on (and it's a quality gear set) and looking for the simpler life that a straight 8 (for example) would bring.

Jim,we put 24 or 27 gears on these bikes but in reality with the power you have available 8 or 9 gears are plenty,unless you intend to ride the bike a lot unpowered.

Personally like having more gears for riding quicker down hills but it is up to individual. Really like HS and did a test ride before we personally delivered the bike to Wales. Was very impressed with dual system the mix of hub and derailleur works well.

Forgive me if my gearing comprehension is a bit like a bloke trying to understand the offside rule in fftwi but with gears sme gears are the same ratio if that makes sense so even if you have x amount of gears some of those will be the same effect even if they are i different settings? Also there are some that shouldn't be used because of 'extremes' ? Not sure still what the hubie thing does BUT it is all combining well...

I use the top gears in 1 and 2 mode (then 8 choices within) quite a bit but use say 2.1-2.4 say for uphill, steep ones and find I don't go into 1 mode much other than for a change. There is a difference but subtle. i find I like to use 2 more just so that I make a bit more effort. Use low gear 3.6-8 to go down steep hills which is fun but bit scary knowing bike is so much heavier so braking more relevant. The changey thing on the KTM is soooo easy. I manage to change gear uphill no problems at all it is just silly so easy it is... Even changing accidentally from say 3.4 to 1.4 works smoothly. I haven't found any delay or issues when I change gear / pedal / go uphill or downhill whatsoever. Only issue I have to say is the 15mph cutout thing which sort of wakes me from my lazy turbo slumber.. Just as well really otherwise I would never work hard. Gears work really really well without electric assistance as well... Hardly any difference when on a flat or downhill unless you are against headwind or trying to get faster that 20 mph on stretch of 32 ish downhill. NOT going to try bike uphill without assistance - that would be a nightmare with my knees!!


I am also thinking of doing it again tomorrow even if my knee is seizing up and got stupid after work late meeting... Getting me enthusiastic again for cycling is one mean feat!!

My view is a bit simplistic but it seems that with all of the gearing 'overlaps' from use of the front cogs in the mid (rear) gear ranges effectively you might get a couple extra at the top and bottom ends.

If that's about right then a straight 8 would probably suit me for electric assist if I can avoid the need to put a shilling in the meter mid ride.

Nexus 8 is less than this (307%). Just depends how you want to ride the bike. Eight is more than sufficient but some people prefer a larger range of gears. It is personal choice about how you want to ride the bike.

Putting it into a Welsh to English translator still produces gibberish, and even worse in back translation, though there's some indication of an issue with King Edward and some pride in Wales present.

I think the Welsh still haven't got over King Henry the Eighth when kings made the law declaring that Wales was not a country but a part of England. That's still the case of course, which is why we have a Prince of Wales, that area being a principality of England and not really a country. Of course there's no Prince of Scotland and no Prince of Northern Ireland, since they are countries and not principalities.

Now I'll stand back and wait for the explosion!

BUT you must have been informed (Ladybird history books do that ) but I am afraid that England joined Wales not the other way around After all Henry was a Welshman from grand Welsh roots .. And even better pops was from Penmynydd on Anglesey

no idea! But it is a VERY nice bike and it it can get me to Snowdoniia from Ynys Mon you won't have any problems in Wrecsam

DW from Electrifying Cycle will know. There are a few nice KTMs as well.. I just wanted the rack and lights set up on mine and frame size suited as well ...

Cornwall / Cerngw basically Welsh in olden days. Language is very similar as is Breton. in fact the Welsh to Cernyweg dictionary is a bit of a waste of time as it is more or less the same words?. Ditto Breton excepts for the zeds they like to add to the words plus the accent makes it more difficult to comprehend. breton lost their idependence much more recently than Wales. Same national anthem as Wales has Brittany . Also Cornwall has I think?

I think you meant to type "misinformed", is that the case? In fact Henry the Eighth did make that ruling on Wales, and areas ruled by princes are principalities. They can exist as independent countries, examples being Andorra, Monaco and Liechtenstein, or sub-national countries like Asturias (Spain) and Wales (UK).

Trouble is that our national titles are in a state of confusion. Britain and Great Britain are two different things, something many don't seem to realise, and both are often referred to as countries. However, the UK is a country and strictly speaking a country cannot be made up of several countries, only of nations. England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland are nations, but that leaves the titles of Great Britain and Britain caught in the middle between them and the country of the UK as neither nation nor country. So we call both Great Britain and Britain countries and hope no-one notices!
