Hello, not found my way round this forum fully yet bit I looked on here before buying my first bike in 40 + years. I settled on the KTM Macina cross with the Bosch powered crank. I've had it for about two weeks, it's developed a loud 'click' as you pedal which seems to be as the left pedal passes top dead centre. I've had a look with the bike upside down and can't see anything the noise is there 80% of the time, only audible when pedalling and always at the same point with the pedal action, so I'm assuming it's to do with the crank, pedal, chain ring or God forbid the motor. The shop I purchased from said try another pedal, they're some distance off from me, but I don't have another pedal and today ( Saturday ) I've tried ringing them again, left a message and no reply. I'm obviously concerned as these bikes ain't cheap, has anyone any suggestions as to what it might be?

It sounds like a known problem. Is it the old bosch with the big chain-wheel or the new one with the small one?

It's a flat washer inside the motor casing which needs a bit of grease - no more than that.
There's no reason why you should have do it yourself, but the job is within the scope of a competent home mechanic.
You need a crank puller to remove the crank, and the locking nut under there is a lefthand thread, so there is a bit of faff.

That's a relief! The shop is about 40 mins drive from me so it's a fair old round trip. I may have a go at it myself. I'm assuming you mean remove the left crank, take off the motor side case and the washer is behind that. I think I've got some copper grease somewhere and assume a smear of that would do the trick.I had wanted to use my local bike shop but they only had very expensive bikes so went to my next largest town. You might want to double check the precise kind of grease required to effect the repair. As copper grease is more a high temp anti-seize grease i.e motor vehicle brakes and nuts & bolts etc.
You have it about right, but I happen to have workshop instructions for this job on a PDF.

The document is Bosch motor only, if you want that it is in the thread Stu linked to above.
No good if your bike is a Kalkhoff Impulse or any other crank drive.
Don't use copper grease!

But there will be enough 'spare' grease built up around the top of the motor pinion pulley to re-use on the floating washer.

If its by any chance Penrith cycle centre they did contact bosch about this problem last week and were sent the PDF instructions others have linked to.
If anyone every had a problem getting hold of a dealer for ktm in the uk just call us and we will chase them do you.
