KTM Macina Cross 400W

I have noticed that the 2014 KTM line up now includes a KTM Macina Cross 10, which substitutes a 10 speed derailleur for the Nexus 8 hub, and saves 1.3 kgs in weight.....easier to fettle or fix a rear wheel puncture
and with the Macina 10, you also get disc brakes.

The Macina 8 comes with Nexus hub and Magura rim brakes. So for the same money you can now choose, gear hub and rim brakes, or derailleur and disc brakes.

KTM is an Austrian company... the motorbike bit is separate from the Bike Industries bit, but they were the same company until about 1992ish.
So a separate company from KTM motorcycles now then, with just the rights to use the KTM name ?

These bikes do seem to be as cool looking in the ebike world as KTM motorcycles are as cool in
the motorcycle world. The look of the majority of ebikes out there just turn me right off and mountain bikes with 26" wheels don't interest me either.
If in the future I decide to purchase a ready made ebike, I will be taking a good look at these KTM ebikes.

no, they are just as much KTM as the motorbike people. The motorbike bit is owned by an Indian company and the bike bit is owned by a Korean family. They are both KTM, and have been since the start, both are still both based in Mattigohen in Austria.

they only split in the 90s as part of a drive by the Austrian goverment to make the company more sustainable and more profitable.... it worked!

There are in fact 4 separate parts to KTM. The bikes, the motorbikes and then radiators and financial services.

We're glad you like the look of the bikes, and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Ok, I get it now..... Thanks for the info.

Only recently fitted a kit, so it'll be a while yet before i'm looking to upgrade, maybe next summer.

The KTM macina cross sport plus, is essentially a standard macina cross with a few upgrades, mainly mudguards. The plus bit refers to the it has the new Bosch performance drive, rather than just the "active" drive that comes on the standard non plus models.

No one will have one in the uk or even Europe yet because they are only just being built. There are 2014 ktm Bosch equipped bikes in the uk now, off the top of my head emotion in Swindon and the London electric cycle company both had bikes shipped this week. They are the standard macina cross bike, but it will give you a good idea of what your have on order.

The macina cross has always had excellent feedback and were confident that with more options for 2014 and the new Bosch drive system it's going to be well received again.

We had our first arrive this week: Macina Sport, comes with mudguards and lights and active drive system. Just been for first ride, wow. Worth the extra £50 compared to Macina Cross with 400wh battery. Looking forward to riding version with performance drive.
