Hi everyone, I’ve been using this app for around a year now and find it well handy for cycling around different tracks and trails! I thought I’d share it you all. It’s good for hiking and walking too. Hope someone finds it useful…

I too use this app and find it to be wonderful, both for recording and planning outdoor activities.

I especially like the ability to take pictures en-route to provide a more interesting record of your trip (see example below from a recent kayak outing)

The voice navigation works great too.

While the app itself is free you can buy the maps for your local area (or beyond) for best results. But having done so there are no ongoing costs.

I looked at it, but iirc there were a couple of places where the local maps tried to send me down footpaths, and the stiles were an issue. . I guess their data source (OSM?) was wrong.

I know using it in and around Edinburgh it does this sometimes too but it’ll tell you before hand there are stairs or a bit you may have to walk your bike through or whatever. You can then change your route or change it on the fly before you hit the “speed bump” in the road. It may not be so updated in more rural areas so best to check first.

It has loads of pre planned routes that users are able to update with photos as they use it sometimes letting you know about temporary closures or whatever too.

I’ve been using it for years, mostly for planning/recording trips.
I haven’t yet needed it for proper navigation but I’ve tried it while walking, I started the navigation on my phone, turned the screen off and put the phone in my top pocket, I then had audio instructions as I walked ;)

This app has always been an important reference point for me to help me use my bike 100 percent.
I'm sure it will also come in handy on the tour I learned about on https://biketourjapan.com/ashikaga-self-guided/. It sounds like a very tempting trip to me, so I'll give it a chance. My friends, by the way, are also interested, so it will be much more fun and curious for us together to explore this trip on our bikes.
I know it will be a great experience and a great memory.
