Where do you get the idea that the percentage of Bosch failures is "far greater" than hub bikes?
Any evidence?
Primarily German e-bike websites. Do you read and understand German, if yes, search around on the wen using something like "Bosch e-bike probleme". Here is what I found, in bothe English and German:-
Have a good read, and also checkout Pedelec.
I once likened the Bosch problems to owning a Laptop, and the normal type standard Hub e-bikes that one finds everywhere as to owning a Tower PC.
The Bosch bike / Laptop, as long as its running good is great, small and powerful. But if it goes wrong, and you are not trained as to how to fault find on a laptop, most people, once the guarantee is gone, simply sell it as broken on ebay and buy a new one! Even opening up some laptops can bring more grief....
But a Tower PC, is easily opened, and parts can be cheaply bought and tried out, at worst, a new mainboard can be fitted for extreme problems, and many younger people today are either clever enough to do that, or have a good friend who is.
I have long lost count of how many laptops I have owned, and if any of them went wrong, some were very difficult to fault find and repair. Parts far more expensive than a PC, and far less "powerful" than a PC of a similar cost!
My last two laptops new, were almost 1700 UK pounds each, and when the last one went tits up, I gave it to a friend of mine who repairs them as a hobby. He used it for parts, as the mainboard had a short, due to a screen hinge breaking and it would have cost more than it was worth secondhand.
I now have a great Fujuítsu tower, where I can see all the parts just by removing the side panel, and it is many times faster than my old i7 Laptop!
That is basically the difference between Bosch mid motors and hub bikes.....I have had two hub bikes, never had a battery problem or a motor problem on either. Plus they cost FAR less than Bosch offerings.
My present bike new, cost just over 900 UK pounds, bike delivered, two batteries, import taxes, and I could buy in all, 2 more for the price of a single Bosch, if something really radical happened, that I could not repair......some Bosch bikes cost at least 3 times that price!!
Some (if not all) Bosch motors have plastic gears in them, OK for the dry Sunday in summer rider, but excepting when there is ice or snow underfoot, I ride up to 5 times a day, anything up to 20 kms each time....
Plus, all the power goes through the chain on Bosch bikes, and if it breaks, you have to either carry a spare, or push the bike home.
I just use my throttle after removing the chain, and ride home on electric only!!
Plus due to only muscle power going through the chain on hub bikes, the chains break and wear far less often on any hub bike!
I see no need to waste money, and I am not someone who needs to have the latest fad make either. I want reliability and easy DIY repair procedures. I have managed to achieve that on 2 out of 2 e-bikes.....
But everyone must make his own choice in such things, I was just drawing some here to the possible problems......that is not a crime as some here apparently seem to think in the way they react!!!!
The truth is always best, whatever its about!
Tell the truth and shame the devil, my mother always said. After being almost 74 years on this planet, no one has ever said a truer word than that. And Its people like Trump who cannot stand the truth, and due to that process, he is killing Americans......and a lot more will die soon because of that attitude.....
