Hi, I have recently bought a second hand kalkhoff electric bike really cheap (under £100)! Everything works great the battery seems fine and it run really well, but was wondering if there's a way to test the battery to see how much life is still in it - can I tell with the lights on the battery? You need a multi meter set to DC voltage, use the probes red +ve and black -ve on the battery terminals.

A voltage test won't tell you how much life is left in the battery as even a knackered battery may charge to full still , it will though tell you the battery voltage .
It will need cycle testing using a known rate of draw down current and a watt meter to discharge it and then charge it up again to see what the figures read.
Alternatively for a quick laymans test ride it up a steepish hill on max power to see if it cuts out.

On your battery the lights on the battery give a rough test of capacity, rather than just charge content.

To do that, hold the button down for over ten seconds, then let go. The number of the five lights showing lit gives a rough estimate of what charge it can hold.
