Good Morning.

My name is Lynette and I am just about to take the plunge by buying my first ebike a Kalkhoff Pro Connect i8.

I have heard some horror stories about motors breaking after just a few miles. Now I am wondering if this bike is worth buying. Unfortunately, I can't afford anything above £1500.

Has anyone had some experience with the Pro Connect model range?

Thanks.

Unfortunately this model has Impulse drive which has checked history. Any of Bosch drive bikes in their range would be better bet.

I have a Pro Connect 9G which I bought just after Christmas and have since covered around 1000 miles with.

So far I have not noticed anything particularly untoward and am rather please with it.

Fingers crossed though!

Thanks for letting me know. I have bitten the bullet and purchased the bike.

Rode it home (14 miles) without too much difficulty but I am now concerned how can I condition the battery? It ran flat about a mile away from home so I have charged it fully. I am hoping it will be able to cope with my 11 mile each way commute.

Any tips on battery conditioning would be welcome!

The best tip is don't. Just use your bike and charge it.

For some bikes, there's a pocedure to get the predicted range right, but that prediction never meets reality, so that's probably a waste of time too.

Mine came with swathes of paperwork in amongst which was some instructions relating to running the battery completely flat for the first 3 charges. Whether this is useful or not I couldn't say. I did it and haven't had any problems so far.

14 miles seems a bit low to be completely flat, I do a 24 mile round trip to work and had to do 2 days commute then ride around the village a couple of times to get mine to go completely flat. Maybe yours was not fully charged when you got it?

Mind you I am in flat Cambridgeshire.

To be fair I think the guys at Cycle Surgery only gave the battery a quick charge. It was half way when I got the bike and it lost a lot of power on one of the bigger hills on my commute.

I was concerned too that I didn't get 14 miles out of it so hence my question.

I charged it fully last night and I am going to give it another go this afternoon to see if is still losing charge.

Update on battery. I gave it a full charge and I have done around 30 miles on half the battery so pretty pleased with that.

I am unfortunately getting a clicking noise from the motor intermittently.

Back to Cycle Surgery I think!
