This may already be common knowledge, but I have just noticed that the prices of Kalkhoff bikes have been increased on the 50 Cycles website.

Pro Connect: was £1395 now £1495 (RRP £1760)
Agattu: not sure what it was before (£1200 and something I think) but now £1325 (RRP £1485)
Tasman: not sure what it was before £1495 (RRP £1605)

Obviously this is bad news, but it does at least make the price those of us with outstanding orders have paid for as yet undelivered bikes look even better.

My non-appearing Agattu was £1240 when I ordered it in January. Given the delivery problems, maybe they've increased the price as a disincentive to buy one. Better to have paid £1240 for a non-appearing bike rather than £1325 for a non-appearing bike, I suppose

I've got a Pro Connect on order too.

I think you'll find that the price increase is a function of the Sterling/Euro exchange rate. The pound has been reaching successive record lows against the Euro over the past few weeks and the trend looks set to continue.

It makes the original launch offer price look that much more attractive though.

The initial price was (I think) a special offer with the forthcoming rise being advertised on 50cycles' website from day one.

Cheers,

Hi John,

Yes, I thought it was probably something to do with the Pound/Euro exchange rate (having got a nasty surprise yesterday when buying some Euros for a trip to Barcelona). Your recent post was totally correct in forecasting a price rise. In view of the economic climate, 50 Cycles have obviously had little choice - in fact I'm sure they're unhappy about having to raise prices, as they gain nothing and potentially lose customers who can't afford the higher prices.

Hello everyone

I'm new here and was thinking of getting one of these bikes. Been lurking for a while but took the plunge and joined up.

I was gonna go for an Agattu cross frame but did not want to pre order due to all the recent discussions about delays. Its been very entertaining:) If a little pointless

I'm gutted now as the company posted on here that they would hold the price until the bikes were well into stock. Better get saving harder.

Bummer!

I feel like I got a right bargain now. I paid £1145 for my Agattu wave frame one week before Christmas and it was delivered on Christmas Eve. As I have said before on this forum, I have nothing but praise for 50cycles. I am sorry it hasn't worked out for other people the same way.

Maybe you won the raffle!

Good to see someone being more honest regarding delivery dates, stating a date as being at the earliest would leave people less dissapointed than promising delivery on a certain week or date, and then keep making excuses.one thing that worries me is people handing over £1200+ before bikes are even in the country,if a seller went bust you would get your fingers burnt,do they really need the full purchase price surely a deposit should be ok.

There is a seperate thread for this type of post Paul, as this appears to be a thinly disguised attack on a certain company yet again. However, the supplier in question doesn't ask for all the money upfront - only a deposit which can be refunded at any time and has honoured that refund when asked. Please stick to the facts and don't make things up.

I paid 50cycles the full amount upfront by credit card and was happy to do so to take advantage of the introductory offer and any subsequent increase in prices. As I paid by credit card my payment is protected if the unthinkable should happen.

It's only protected for a certain length of time though. My own card was 60 days. Some are 90. It's worth checking

Just to clarify, the separate thread is for specific customer / supplier issues so, as I see it, Paul's comment would not fit there. Isn't it a general point, flowing on from the previous posting and developing the theme, and not even naming any specific supplier?

In the same way that I don't want the forum to be a succession of 50 Cycles customer complaints, neither should it be a place where 50 Cycles, or any other supplier, has some sort of protected status, with any comment - even one which does not mention them - but which could be viewed as implicit criticism of their actions, decreed not politically correct and subject to censor!

Thanks,

Frank

I agree. Particularly when companies make statements about holding prices on this forum and then renague. You cant have it both ways.

For whats its worth I've paid the full amount up front by credit card to a supplier that isn't 50cycles.

I won't name the supplier (though you can have fun guessing if you like ;)), but I did this because they normally charge a 3% Card handling fee which they said they'd waive if I paid in full.

I'm expecting to receive my bike in the first week of May (fingers crossed).

I'm assuming that paying by credit card will give me protection if the supplier in question goes belly up over the next 3 weeks.

What company did this? If it is 50cycles you are talking about then they said on this forum that the would hold prices on Kalkoff's for people who had ordered them already not that they would never increase the price. Again - facts wrong.

I respectfully disgree Frank. Paul's comment was factually incorrect and another thinly disguised attack on 50cycles. I don't believe it was a general follow-on comment developing a theme, it was just another side-swipe at 50cycles making unsubstantiated claims. I agree 50cycles should not have protective status - currently it has anything but that - but also it is crucial that if forum members are to complain about companies that they at least get their facts right.
