Wouldn't like to park that around London though ... I very briefly rode the 2015 version - really nice bit of kit

If your bike has the small, basic display, you can't change it yourself, and would need a device from the shop.
If your bike has the larger, more advanced display (showing for instance remaining miles), then you can change it yourself through the settings.
A few people owning a Kalkhoff bike with an impulse 2.0 motor have had the clacking/clanking issue (including me), and their motor replaced as a consequence.

Thanks tomato. You can change the wheel diameter in both the small and large displays but it made no difference to the speed limiter - just made the speedo under read. On the S models you can change speed too although I don't think it'd make much difference.
Thanks for this - I've read that and that is what made me listen out. Pretty disappointing really. I wonder how many of the 160000 units of impulse motors apparently sold have been faulty?
Don't spend too much on that call, I doubt they'll tell you anything useful. It's their Vehicle Inspectorate who do know what's needed, and at present as said, it's not possible on any existing production machine.Going to call dvla shortly. Premium number no doubt... Grrrr... Will keep you all posted
The couple or so who have achieved it have had to change the tyres to m/c spec ones, the lighting to moped units and a host of other changes. Basically the bikes become mopeds then, unsurprising since they have to satisfy the Low Powered Moped specifications for 15 mph assist or full moped specifications for higher assist speeds up to 30 mph.

Police wouldn't get involved unless a criminal matter or was being driven without registration when it needed one. They didn't really know what the requirements were for EPAC.
DVLA - they agreed the wording was confusing but on their guidelines from 2014 it says 'must' where as the 2015 guidelines on their website say 'shouldn't'. I did ask if their guidelines were out of date but was told they were current and they'll look into changing the wording on the website.

There used to be only the supernova M99 light that had the s-pedelec seal of approval now B+M have a couple too. 290 € all the same for the supernova which does have the advantage of coming with brake light switches. The supernova rear light has brake light and numberplate light function built in. B+M have rear lights that are approved I think I would mount two and use one of them as a brake light.

Schwalbe have s-pedelec approved tyres in certain sizes - 26" and 27.5" IIRC
In France you need a moped horn, pretty easy to find on a wrecked scooter and hook it up via a DC/DC 12V converter.
And of course a numberplate holder.
And there you go, proud owner of a moped...

Maybe on the latest models, but I have an Impulse 2 bike, and the small display does not allow to change any settings (apart from miles to km as units).
If you press and hold the select button then select drive and it's under one of those settings. Unless I'm getting confused you can change on both the impulse 2 and newer model.
Is that correct?
The problem here in the UK is that the S pedelecs aren't recognised, so any of those S pedelec approvals carry no meaning with the DVLA's Vehicle Inspectorate. In fact the opposite, since any mention of the high speed pedelec class prompts the DVLA into very negative mode.
I don't know the position regarding the machinery directives or how they stand with regard to vehicle classes. I do know however how difficult it was for the very few who have managed to get moped acceptance here, and that they've said it wasn't worth it in the end.
It makes no sense to even try at the moment while the status of the L1e-A and L1e-B moped replacement classes is still under discussion and the new Type Approval requirements for them haven't been finalised. We do know that the draft contains some welcome L1e-A easements which might survive to the final document, so it makes sense to wait for that. It shouldn't be very long since it's already overdue.

Did you manage to change wheel circumference on your impulse 2.0 ??I've been reading up on these and have read that they have pedal assist up to about 17mph.
Also, that it's possible to change wheel circumference in the settings menu.
Can anyone confirm if this is true?

- unless I'm getting confused I think so, (tried all the different versions in the shop) but it didn't make any difference to speed. It did make the display misread though.
Nope, not correct. I have a Pro Connect 10 bike, with the "basic" display, and the only available setting to change is whether distance is showing in miles or km. No other settings are available from the bike computer, although I understand there is a programming box that can be connected to the motor to change other settings.
