Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

Been out for a ride now the weather has calmed down, but seem to have gone invisible again..
The first two were never a threat and are easily dealt with but the third .. A woman just turned in then had second thoughts and didn't know what to do next.. I suppose stopping was the best option...
I all three cases my speed was about 15MPH. Fast enough that I wasnt causing a problem but not so fast as to confuse the overtaking drivers...

Wow! there's some real idiots out there, but pleased your safe anyway. I must put my go pro on bike as they are invaluable, after being cut up so many times on bike.

I can't tell you how many times a day i see people not indicating, or there in the wrong lane. What kind of test are they passing?

Today i lost my temper a bit, as wife was in car to calm me down. I was in the correct lane to go around roundabout, indicating and in the outside lane. Some lunatic decides he wants to come around me and off at same time as me, and cut me up within an inch. Now i'm not being funny here, but i was in a big 4x4 so he could clearly see me, but by the looks of him / car he didn't give a `@£>. I'm not being snobby either.

I'm always courteous, always let people out / filter, but frankly i don't know why i bother these days.

Rant over about some drivers!

It's a pretend one for school runs :), but really good if you travel to the south of France with 3 teens.

I'd never squish a bike as aways give sooooo much room.

She at least spotted you in her l/h mirror as she was about to turn and realised the problem, so stopped. What could have been confused her at first look in the left mirror was the way curved car side mirrors make things look further away than they are. That could momentarily have made the turn look safe, until you rapidly grew larger in the mirror.

But for the fact that she was in the process of overtaking me...

Of course, but drivers frequently make this "out of sight, out of mind" mistake when passing a bike, since bikes are commonly regarded as slow moving.

The problem in essence is that at the point of passing the car is much faster, the subsequent slowing on the brakes changing that relationship after the bike is out of sight.

Experienced drivers have learnt not to make such mistakes, but a high proportion of drivers on our roads are not very experienced. This is particularly true of female drivers who have in the main come to driving more recently. So as I said, it was commendable that she used her l/h mirror and stopped, preventing her momentary misjudgment having a serious consequence.

Oops. I think you are very brave to suggest that female drivers may be less experienced than men....

Not at all. When I was much younger a female driver was very rare indeed, almost non-existent. For much of my life it was accepted that a man drove his wife, never the other way round. It was only in the 1980s that there was some real growth in women learning to drive and for a long time they continued to lag in taking up driving.

In the most recent years it's actually reversed according to the DfT, there are now more young women than young men taking up driving.

This later take-up of driving illustrates there is a lower overall level of driving years experience among women. Now add to that the insurance industry reporting female drivers have on average only about two thirds the annual mileages of male drivers and the lower level of mileage experience is added, making the discrepancy quite large.

I hate driving in the UK, too many cars for a small island. When you drive on the autoroutes in France you soon realise how overcrowded our roads really are.
Also, as a generalisation i find bikes have much more acceptable in France on the roads and given more room when overtaken due to strict French laws.

That was helped by French cyclists being very militant, mounting road blockades and other such protests to get better safety on their roads. Similar militancy on a smaller scale in London has helped improve matters here, but we have a long way to go.

Great video share with everyone i think the people that were driven need to re-pass their test there is no way you were given 1 meter of room which is the law to any cyclist on the road

The last part of the clip where that person cut you up i think i would said something to them because that was really out of order really and i don't
think the excuse of i didn't see you would of washed it anyway

Some very shocking driving i can complete understand why you have a camera fitting to your bike.

when cycling i always make sure i wear a hi viz from now on because of the idiots on the road because you never know what you are going to come across when you are cycling

At the end of the day if they cut you up really bad like in the video then all you got to say to them is can you not see a hi viz jacket on the road and if the reply was no then all you would have to say you shouldn't be on the road at all

if you cannot see a hi viz jacket on the road then you can definitely cannot see a car brake light when it braking and you are danger to all

I get buzzed a lot by cars overtaking too close which is why I have ordered the varia radar. Biggest problem is traffic calming where if I know cars are aproaching behind I try to "own" the lane to stop them attempting to squeeze through.
I read that the police are fielding officers on cam equipped bikes to raise awareness.
