Not a total solution to the problem but as an extra layer of protection what about a slightly modified version of this to put your battery in while charging

Make some holes in it to try and stop it bursting in the event of a flair up. As stated not a total solution but may help to contain any potential problems.

Still left with a great amount of energy to be dissipated, not sure if endining up with an incandescent steel box to live with, moves one very far safety wise.

Yes I don't see this as a total solution, but having seen some of the videos od batteries going up possibly easier to deal with a box than a flaming open battery

Ammo case (but REMOVE THE SEALS) - seems like a good option in all the tests I have been able to find - LIPO bags don't seem up to ebike batteries

Cold doesn't affect storage only charging does , so charging needs to be above freezing in ambient temps .
Likewise best to not charge or store in a hot place or near a hot radiator, that said some keep them in the airing cupboard so they don't get a sniffle.

I store mine in a polystyrene box in my garage to even out temperature changes, I charge them every couple of months or so in winter and then drop the voltage down to about 40% with my home made discharger.
