Hi I have a kalkhoff tasman impulse

The pedal assist won't work been told by bike shop it either the torque sensor not working meaning a new motor costing £600 but could be a software problem

Before get rid off the bike for spares can anyone help or can I not just remove the torque sensor or will the bike not work after as programmed not to

Shame as its a nice bike and only done 1000 miles and when I bought it second hand it had just had a new motor under warranty 18 months ago

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

There are loads of problems with these motors, most of which are related to an under-sized bearing. When the bearing fails, it takes out the white plastic gear and/or the pedal ratchet. Some people advise to replace the bearings every 1000 miles as matter of necessary precaution .

In fact one engineer-type guy calculated the load on the bearing and predicted that it would last 1500 miles of normal usage, which lines up pretty accurately with anecdotal evidence.

You can get a replacement motor for about £450 from these guys.

By all means open up your motor and have a look inside, but there will most likely be a catalogue of problems and nobody sells spare parts other than the bearings.

These are great bikes when they work. I can't say they don't last because I'm sure that someone has got one that did, but none of the ones I fixed had done more than 1750 miles and I don't know anybody that had one that was problem-free.

Hey thanks for the advice yeah I was thinking off getting a new motor but sort off puts me off when they go so often so might invest in a new bike lol

But yeah If I got nothing to lose then might have a look inside see if there's anything going on

It's been an amazing bike that's why I'm gutted but yeah reading the reviews on all the impulse motors there seems alot off problems so maybe time for a normal ebike or a conversion project for the summer

Thanks again
