Did you actually look at the picture of the replacement charger, and identify the DC charging cable and connector? It appears to be only two wires.
There is nothing on the other two wires from that replacement, except possibly a short or a diode....
As, if I understood it fully, the original charger is defective, why not inspect the cable carefully? It could tell you a lot! And possibly save you money, and help others here who might get into a similar situation....

What picture, the one that was flagged up? Charger

That one illustrated is not even for the Impulse 2, the thread subject.
I have seen no other picture of the correctly configured charger, indicating only two wires are used.

The web page very clearly states to message them about the charger needed to be replaced and plug type, and we know that requires an XLR4 4 pin plug.
There is absolutely nothing showing that they then only wire the XLR4 to just two of its 4 pins.

I have every reason to believe for the Impulse 2, that "cyclebuddy" is way more on the correct path, in that charger features a "handshake to battery" circuit using at least one more of the pins.

If what you say is true, then the new charger will not operate correctly.
I looked at the picture magnified, and I believe its a barrel connector, similar to what my bike, and the previous one as well, used.
A query to the seller, noting the name of the bike, and that it has a 4 pin connector, asking if the charger is fully compatible, should elicit a Yes or a No from the charger seller, and is very simple to do before ordering one.
I would even go as far as to suggest that be done in writing, just in case it does not work correctly when used.....then he can send it back and get the full costs reimbursed.
My bet is that it will simply work if the seller says it will. Then plus and minus are simply enough.
The seller will not want to have to pay money back, plus postage!
