wouldn't it be better to have fans and wings rather than just fans?

It might take off, but i would be a tad worried about the landing

ps It does not seem to have any forward propulsion unit, or does it just go up and down.
The diagrams indicate the fans can tilt - providing forward thrust.

Hope they build it - I want a go!

unless they have a small nuclear generator I think the power to weight ratio could be a problem :D

If they have 'a small nuclear generator' on board, the power to weight ratio could be the least of their problems! :)

That would solve my problems crossing the Thames but with no hope of filtering I hope the batteries will manage a few miles across London.

With enough compact power, it would work, yes.
Why does that picture remind me of 'Flubber'?

But that is using wings to generate lift. Bit different to a bed of fans.
Fan blades can be wings (aerofoils) ... check out helicopters ... :)

It will never be viable. A failure within any part of a system supplying power to or controlling the fans would spell disaster. The bike would become uncontrollable and crash. Aircraft have a huge amount of redundancy built into the vital systems. I doubt that this has any.

Unlike a helicopter, this thing will not auto-rotate in the event of power loss. It would just plummet like a stone. It's just a gimmick to prompt discussion and attract attention, so in that regard, I suppose it has worked.

Czech engineers set to build six-prop Flying Bike surely this is the stuff of stilton induced dreams.....it cant possibley work. Can it?
Most of it looks fairly credible at first glance. 47Kw of power is around 70bhp, which may be adequate. Will 50Ah of battery really keep it flying for 2 to 3 minutes? Maybe, without doing the maths.

One point of suspicion is here "It's expected that the FBike will be capable of a flight time of three to five minutes, or an assisted ride time on terra firma of between 30 and 50 minutes per charge." - the latter figures cannot possibly be right. More like 6 or 8 hours on terra-firma!

it may fly. Using 72V 50AH battery with Samsung cells? possible range 3-10 miles?
