........but my bottle went.

Today I finally accepted a challenge to do the 2 bridges (Kincardine & Forth) with a young chap from work.

All the signs were good, it was warm and dry with a slight breeze. I was all prepared: 2 drinks bottles filled with juice, 2 bottles of Black energy drink, my trusty sat-nav and 2 batteries.

As we ventured out I wondered at which point I'd be stopping and changing the battery.

21 miles in we stopped so the young chap could feed himself, I'm still on battery No1.
By about 27 miles we're at the Forth bridge and still No1 battery going strong. At this point I'm thinking of changing it anyway since I've got a fresh one with me.

By 30 miles we're across the Forth bridge and heading home. We stopped in a small road off the main drag and debated the battery. I decided since we're now on quiet roads for miles it won't matter if it gores flat.

36 miles now and I'm just thinking hmmmm anytime soon.

37 miles and in the middle of Linlithgow, I've got 8 miles to go but they're all uphill from here on in.
38 miles and we're in Aldi's car park whilst the young fellow check if they've any of their bike stuff left.

In Aldi's I decide to change the battery. My bottle had gone. Now I'm regretting it as I'd have loved to see if I could do the 2 bridges on 1 battery. Maybe next time.

All in all though, it was a good run. 46 miles and my moving average was 14.2 mph. according to my vdo mc1.0.

Maybe next time eh? :)

That's a great range, also considering your carrying extra weight too. Fair play.

It certainly was a good range, especially at that respectable average speed.

Sounds impressive enough to me Jim, well done

I think if the last 8 mile were mainly uphill you did the right thing changing battery then......mind you.....who knows....if only you hadnt lost your bottle eh...... lol ;)

Dear Sir , I'm curious, You say "your bottle went". This suggests to me that something bad would have happened to the machine and since we're talking E-batteries here, JUST~ what would have happened if you had run that 1st battery .... all.... the way down ?

All that would have happened is the bike would have stopped. Sod's law dictates it would happen going up a steep hill. Changing it at the point I did was the sensible option but I wish I'd just pressed on to see how far I could have gone on 1 battery.

I'm sorry BUT~ when you say just stop , Does that mean it's ceased, likely to get ceased ? Or could 4 example jack the motor up, peddle.... for some time, maybe.... but still get to recharge > the original battery ?

Hi Jim excellent mileage, I would have been tempted to have used the second battery to climb the hills back home and then put your 1st battery back in without charging it to see what it would do? on a trip later or the following day.
Will be intereasting to see if you get the same range out of both batteries?

Bob:)

Now, THAT would have been the sensible thing to do and heading out the top road of my village would have been the perfect road to try it. Why didn't you post that before I got home? ;)

Does this give us an insight into the mystery invention talked about, some form of generator powered by the peddles ???

I'll bet that's it - chain-driven generator , so all you have to do is pedal to run the motor.

Why hasn't someone thunk of that before?

We may never know, now that the mods have modded the o/p.

Nah; I reckon he's spotted an anomaly in the Spiced Tea Continuum, whereby, as you come over the top of the stroke, the fabric warps just a little bit and wobbles back as if nothing has happened, so that if you stick a probe in just the right place, you might be able to harness all the energy that's sitting there waiting to be tapped and watch the Sun explode if you get it wrong.
