I need a screw...

...but only a little one.

The screw holding the ebike thumb control on my Bosch equipped bike fell out some time yesterday.

I say screw, might have been an Allen bolt.

Looks like its a 4mm thread.

Length is important because the captive thread is blind and not very deep - a replacement a mm or two longer or shorter than the original won't fit.

So what I really need is an original fixing screw/bolt for a 2013 Bosch thumb control.

All help gratefully received.

Thanks.

It fits into a plastic moulding, so I'm not certain if that type of head will fit although it probably will.

How the head sits will impact on the length, which in itself will not be simple to measure.

Unfortunately, there's not 'one on the other side' to have a look at.

I can't immediately think of a Bosch bike near me I could have a look at.

Hopefully someone will come up with the right bolt or some accurate size and type info.

Thanks.

The local DIY shed might be able to manage one, I mean a pack, of those.
Rob,
It is unlikely that this screw would be other than a standard length. If you can get an accurate description of what it is, I could go along to Swansea Fasteners who seem to sell all sorts of screw, bolts etc.
PM me if needed.

Mike,

Kind offer - thanks.

Measuring the depth of the hole is not easy, even with the end of a vernier, because of the shape of the moulding.

I agree it will be a standard length, and the 10mm posted earlier looks a good bet.

Might try one of those if I can get a little pack for a pound or two.

...update...

The bigger news of today is my thumb control is once again firmly fixed to the bike.

I lashed out on a little pack of 4X10mm machine screws and one of them did the job.

The control had been loose for a while, so the moral of the story is regularly check the fixings on your bike and nip up any loose ones.

Anyone care to make me an offer for nine unused machine screws - and 10 nuts?

Are the nuts salted?
