I get the impression, from this forum mainly, that hub motors are far more reliable than crank drive ones.... and some crank drives like the Kalkhoff one seems to be downright unreliable.
Very rarely do i seem to see problems with hub motors on here.

Mxus - try getting it appart to grease it, needs special tool
There are reports of water ingress most often through the cable entry
Torque arms
Internal gears and clutch

There are issues, just maybe less per km and by the sheer number of motors out there.
