Well, my ride was a bit hit and miss, ending with a disaster

I was riding unfamiliar route and some of the trails were non extinct or very hard to find. Now where is the trail here:

Now for the bad parts. The battery life of the Garmin Edge 20 is lousy, it lasted about 3,5hrs. Next time I'll bring the charging cradle with me so I can charge it via Intuvia.

Few kilometers before home I noticed my left pedal feeling strange. I looked down and it looked like it's loose. No problem, I have tools with me...right. The threads were stripped and I could not tighten the pedal. It actually fell off when I started to pedal again. Luckily I was close to home and I could pedal with one pedal with the bike in Sport mode. Finally home after 75km and 3km left in the battery.

The left side crank arm is busted. And of course it's the custom offset crank arm for wide fat bike chainstay. Had it been the right side crank I could have just installed any spare crank arm. (The motor is installed offset to the right in Macina Freeze). Now I need to order new one, or make it two...

Sherman, It sounds as though we both should have stayed at home today.

Well that's another organised mtb event done and dusted, and I think that I can honestly say that it was also the hardest. It was just way too hot up on the South Downs, a point that was mentioned by many.
I started to feel sick about half way round, and still do some 5 hrs or so later. Both myself and the lad that I was with, suffered from punctures caused by flint, the tubeless set up did nothing to prevent either, and talking to another lad that I know via Strava, he also suffered the same, as did several others.
We all also came to the same conclusion, that it was stopping to fix the punctures that caused each of us to suddenly become very drained and overly hot.
Knowing that I killed a battery dead in just over ten miles of climbing in Switzerland, and can do the same over here in 20 miles without using Sport or Turbo, It was really hard on me trying to make the battery last the 37miles, and I rode using eco and no assist, and returned with just one bar remaining. Hauling 20kg of bike around unassisted today, was no fun.

This is the first time that I haven't enjoyed riding the South Downs.

looks like we get same sort of mileage as last time up forest used eco and off when i could and had 2 bars left after 33.5 miles.

think 40 miles is as far as 1 batt will go on up forest rides over hills ect.

got 12 miles today on flat b4 1 bar went up forest say 8 miles per bar.

i also found out why my rear rotor is scorched as im going over 300c when braking its as it just cheap 1 thats what you get.

any one know why my rear rotor looks like its had a blow torch on it?

I get that a lot when the rotor gets too hot. If it is not too bad and if it is not shrieking then it will wear off. I once cooked my rear one so bad that I had to replace it. It could be because your pads seem to be set wrongly and are not coving all the friction area, they need to be further in. This will mean that you have to clamp harder for the same braking effort.

Soundwave, there could be several things going on with it. Cheap crap disc, wrong pad material for the disc and as Lumos has stated, incorrect caliper/pad position.

Good luck with the Hope ones, and if you are going fully floating, enjoy the potential of added float rattle.

Just an observation, what's going on with the hose routing on the forks? Sooner or later, you are going to catch that on something.

Poor old bike, I was just too knackered yesterday to clean it after yesterday's mtb event, and having to go to work afterwards, but like the washing up from the night before, I once again wish that I had done it. Chalk and cow poo set like concrete.

I'm not into adding bling and crap to bikes just for the sake of it, but this following item is proving to be very good. Riding almost every other evening/night throughout the year, one thing has often bugged me, and that is light positioning. Invariably the light beam from my two Cree lights has never quite been right. This simple bar has solved the issue, and the lights now shine exactly where I want them.

it is a cheap crap disc as was only 7 quid just to make sure the adaptor i had was the right 1 will be replaced when the hope ones get here 203 front and back.

i know just it has my cheap 6 quid speed monitor wire wrapped round it.

got a bike stand coming as well n see if can do a better job with it.

how long did it take from china?

can you lift the front of the bike with it as be good handle for lifting over gates ect as was pita other day.

looks like it will save nyon from a whack as well

Only took a couple of weeks to arrive, but there is probably some UK sellers as well on Ebay. I just didn't look.

Couldn't answer about using it as a handle, but it does clamp up very tightly.

Ref the Nyon, I only re fitted it the other day, as I was giving someone a demo on it a week or so ago. I hate it.

I just bought an Intuvia Active/Performance line kit that included the loom and head unit, and swapped things over, so I guess that fitting a Nyon unit would be the same, but in reverse.
The Nyon doesn't seem to work when fitted to an Active line motor though, but does with the Performance line.

You can still use a cheap Android phone with GPS like the Samsung Galaxy Ace. You can download all the maps before you start and the GPS works independently of the phone system, so you don't need a phone signal.

i have a Samsung s2 but it just will not work gps wise and cant find me ;(

A Garmin Edge touring will give you excellent mapping and the mount will fix to the crossbar just behind the headset well out of the way. If you would like a photo let me know and I'll post one up.

I use a Garmin Edge Touring GPS on my Haibike. I have it mounted just in front of the bike's own display. Works brilliantly and you get free upgrades of worldwide cycle maps. Can work with heart rate monitors, cadence sensors & even certain eBikes (not my sDuro). It's also very tough and mud & waterproof. Initially I did find battery life not great, but found by setting backlight time out to 15 seconds, it seems to last well. I did 7 hours a couple of weeks back and it still had 28% battery left. They've been around for a while now, so I managed to pick it up 2nd hand on eBay for £105.
