I spoke a couple of months ago how my active line plus after 15,000 miles had developed severe bearing play.

I was going to refurb the bearings but two weeks later was faced with the terminal error code 500.....no way back from that.

I replaced the motor for a new one cost £590.

Just interested is this the typical life of a bosch motor, how many miles has yours done without a problem?

Gen2 CX. 18k miles until main bearing failure. Rebuilt by ebike motor centre and did another 18k until it happened again. Original battery was low on capacity so replaced the bike. Bike was delimited and never left me stranded through hail, rain and snow so I take the view that it owed me nothing.

So I bought another Bosch bike.

I wouldn't say that was the typical lifespan of a Bosch mid-drive motor I would actually say that was very good life. I'm assuming that is a low power unit not like one of their e-mountain bike motors that deliver very high levels of torque. I could be wrong perhaps it is a high torque motor in which case I would say you were exceptionally lucky to get that sort of lifespan but as ever its really down to rider weight, rider power, where the ebike is ridden, what power settings are used, how much maintenance etc. So many variables.

Using higher power most of the time by dongling to higher speeds will shorten life. Interesting to hear real world experiences.

Most bikes I know do a few hundred miles a year, so hardly matters. The odd one is on a couple of thousand a year, so will still see 8 years or more.

Mine is 'everyone's favourite' Shimano, bottom of the range E5000 and sounds and rides like new at 32,500km / 20,200 miles. I heard of one that had done 67,000km. I'll see how close I can get to that.
