How hard to buy an electric bike in Sheffield?

Sorry for my first post to be a whinge, but I'm just slightly shocked.
I live in a City built on 7 hills, so would have thought it would be an ideal place for pedelecs. However I've struggled to even see them in shops.
Edinburgh Co-Operative bike....1 in, a Giant. Was told that they aren't great and they'll be having more stock in soon. When? No idea, month or two.
James' Cycles.... 1 in, a Trek. Old model. In the storeroom. We could get it out if you're really interested but it'll take a bit of notice.
Evans Cycles....1 in. The new model of the Trek at James'. Uncharged. Give us a day or so.

To be honest, I wanted to see a Wisper. Which Edinburgh cycles is supposed to be a stockist of. It seems like the nearest place to see them is Leeds. That's a good 3 hour round trip if I'm lucky.

I suppose for some reason they don't sell well here, so stockists won't keep them in store.
Still annoying.

Normal bike shops stock pedelecs as a token gesture for their suppliers. If you want a pedelec you really need to go to a specialist pedelec supplier.

Welcome to this site and it must be frustrating for you,when you also have the cash readily to spend.
Have you though about moving house?

Move house nearer to a Pedelec shop, or somewhere less hilly? And no, I like living with like minded complain about everythingers (it IS a word).

I actually used to ride to work every day until I had a kebab/beer/concrete stairs/birthday celebration incident. This means I now have real problems with my left knee. The twist and go of the Wisper appeals. I still very very occasionally pedal to work, but find the last half mile "get off and push" a little embarrassing. Especially as I now carry a little extra timber.

If you want a bike that will get you up the hills without pedalling you really need a motorbike, or a none legal e-bike.

I bought a bike online, (Pro Rider E Tourer £579) and it is very good. I also live in a hilly area and it is coping well. It has a step-over frame, because I also have a problem with my knee. Put Pro Rider into Google and you should find further details online. Regards, Don

A couple of weeks ago I went into James' in Chesterfield and found they had 3 / 4 Trek / Giant e-bikes. When I asked if they had any details about them the reply was 'no mate, it's on the web site but best go to the manufacturers site and have a look....'

And retailers winge that the internet is killing their businesses!

I ended up doing a 400 mile tour in the car to have a look at some.

BTW, I know it's true about Yorkshire complainers - I worked in Sheffield for a number of years...and even worse have to watch 'Look North' for local news!

Swordfish...It doesn't surprise me what you say,which is of course why we did the roadshows around the country-even if you weren't ready to buy a bike you could test many and then feel confident to buy off the internet knowing you had already tested the bike and liked it.
Did you not make it to the Derbyshire Manifold Trail event,I think that is a reasonable distance to Sheffield.
At last we have been advised of shipment of our Kudos Ibex bike,the first of the crank drive bikes using the TCM motor from Kudos,should be good hill climber to suit the Sheffield Alps!!!

Hatti could have a Woosh Sant Ana with you in 2 days for £625 , half hour later you would be pedalling it . Black or white , your choice . This machine is similar to the Pro Bike , but her replacement batteries are cheaper .

You could visit The Bike Tree In Dore who stock our bikes or come over to Buxton or New Mills to see our complete range.
You'd be very welcome to take any for a good ride up local hills.

We also have bikes to try at any time on the Tissington trail and soon on the other local trails.

If you do get sorted there are four things to beware of when biking around Sheffield: - Trams, tram lines, white vans and for some inexplainable reason orange vans. Here speaks the voice of someone who has experienced all four.

Hi Swordfish, the Wisper bikes will all be in stock next week, the first containers of 7 and 9 series bikes will arrive from Germany on Monday, the 8 series folders are already here, Edinburgh Co-op will be getting their stock next week.

Try out the Wisper905Classic Swordfish, the new hi torque motor from Dapu is amazing, it will really help with that hill!
