Hello

New member from Bristol taking his first plunge into this interesting world. Having borrowed a bike from my friend recently, I'm hooked and am looking to make my first purchase. I will, of course, look through this site for recommendations. However, welcome any suggestions for a bike that can slay hills (Bristol is mighty hilly) and carry a decent weight (I'm 15 stone and also need to carry work laptop etc). Budget is circa 1500 but fairly flexible. Thanks in advance.

Atmosphere in Bristol is the most experienced in that city and have a very wide range of bikes to try. With your budget you can afford to try a variety of bikes there, rather than buy blind (and possibly twice) from one of the on-line only sellers.

Thanks for the replies. Have popped in to see the very helpful Atmosphere bikes. Narrowed down to two choices. The new Oxygen SCross and the Wisper 905. Both great to ride although the the Wisper definitely has the edge in terms of 'oomph' However both got me up park street with minimal effort and I'm unlikely to do too many 20mile plus rides so not sure the additional cost can be justified (by the wife!). I'll sleep on the decision but if anyone uses either of these models for their day to day commute, feedback is welcomed. My commute is only 4or so miles each way so not huge distances. Cheers

You may not think your go more then 20 miles but eventually you will as you head out to explore more, it can get addictive.

Hi Cusmonkey!

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for trying out the Wisper 906Torque, we are very proud of it!

Alistair at Atmosphere is brilliant, he will certainly help you to make the correct decision.

A couple of points to remember when deciding on which battery to have. Our 575Wh is £200 more expensive than our 375Wh but most of our customers go for the bigger one.

1. The larger battery will last much longer than the small one. Long term it is less expensive.

2. Not only will your range longer, but the larger battery will keep that maximum hill climbing power for twice as long as the smaller battery.

However, if you only intend to ride 8 miles a day the small one will work very well for you.

Alistair will explain in detail I am sure.

All the best, David

There are a few other electric bike shops in Bristol. Visit them for some more test rides.
What's the commute mine is from 8 miles to 50 depending on how lost I get. Sometimes visiting Yate, or even totworth if the weather is good.
