Just signed up and popping on to introduce myself :)

I'm a complete newbie to all things 'e-bike' related -but really interested to learn all there is to know. I'm in my 'cough' 50s and have fallen out of love with cycling because... well... I'm overweight and unfit, therefore I find cycling a bit of a chore. I also suffer with asthma and get out of breathe easily. All this can and should be remedied with a bit of a lifestyle change (diet wise) which is in the plan -but alongside this I would like to use cycling as a means to improve my health.

Mainly though the idea of owning an e-bike has peaked my interest because I want to start commuting to work by bike -which is a short 3 mile hop, but does include some hills (seem like mountains to me) which are a bit of a challenge. And, I want to be able to join my other half on his ride outs, albeit he rides one of those rather swish, uber lightweight road bikes, from time to time.

Anyways - I have been doing some online research (what a minefield this is) and it'll be no surprise that I intend to post a 'what bike should I get' type question. I have a couple of possibles in mind and look forward to hearing peoples views.

Well, that's me :) bye for now.

Just to encourage you Susan I lost my extra 4 kg within the first month of using my pedelec. You just have to get out and about and get those km/miles in several days a week.

Welcome to the forum, you'll now be bombarded with lots of suggestions on which bike is best for you. The best advice though, is to try different bikes if you can.

Hi and welcome, I also wanted to get an e bike to commute but also to enjoy cycling again and get a bit fitter, apart from this awful weather I'm really enjoying it.

Good advice to try the bikes and see what suits you, that's a short commute but you may find you want to ride further just for pleasure...yeah no it can happen! :D

Hello and welcome. I recently joined as well and you're right, the world of ebikes is like a minefield. I have just bought my ebike and am waiting for it to be delivered. Good luck.

I went for a wisper 806 classic.its a folder. Some people dont like folders but I quite like them. You can put it in the boot of the car and use it whenever you want. I wanted it purely for pleasure and I think it will be perfect for me.

Ah. From what I've read that's a great choice for what you need. I'm not after a 'folder' because i don't own a car :) Seems Wisper is a good brand :)

Yes.nits an excellent brand. I know it's a bit terrifying buying an ebike. It is a lot of money to spend and you want to make sure you get it right.

I was looking for about 4 months, and I emailed many of the companies and asked as many questions of them as I could. Thankfully, they were all incredibly nice and were happy to answer any and all of my questions.

Four months? Is that all. I was two years at least.
