I joined your forum due to the high number of excellent bikes that seem to be available on the other side of the pond. Here in the USA we do have ebikes/pedalecs, but the selection seems so much more varied in the UK, and in Europe in general. I'm hoping to find a wonderful pedalec, and minivelo sized at that, that I can manage to import to my local. I'm so glad I finally noticed this fantastic site!!! I've definitely been missing out,... :)

Welcome to the forum tds101, I hope you enjoy your exploration of our e-bike market. We have a number of US members including RobNYC as you'll see on this link.

Some things you'll probably find disappointing witn our new e-bikes, they are not allowed throttles, only pedal control of power, and they are limited to 15.5 mph assist speed, although that is tweakable on some of them.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I figured there'd be a few Yanks who managed to find this site before I did.

As for disappointing, I doubt it. I'd definitely figure out how to tweak firmware to get to a 20mph speed limit we have here in NYC. And I'm all about the pedalec as well, considering that it's "technically" illegal to have a throttle on an ebike where I live. It's actually not supposed to be legal at all, but the authorities tend to ignore a pedalec. I occasionally ride an electric scooter, and it's throttle only. It hits 20mph as well,... The police tends to ignore me, as they see me yield to traffic, stop at lights and stop signs, give pedestrians the right of way. I've yet to have any issues.

Anyway, I can't wait to explore the site. I'm hoping I can get some minivelo pedalec suggestions.

Minivelo bikes don't seem to have taken off here in the way they have in the USA and Japan, but hopefully some of our members will know of some possibilities.

I have seen a few nice German models, such as as Kalkhoff SAHEL COMPACT IMPULSE 8 (it's actually available in the USA). There's also the Winora Radius, with an 8 Speed igh. Beautiful!!!

Welcome. Did we mention by the way, that the forum closes up between the hours of 8pm to 8am (GMT)? It's our way of stopping you Yanks getting in on the act.:p

Sorry, only kidding, it's my brutal northern England sense of humour.:D

Love New York by the way, you lucky devil living there.

Well, NYC is OK. It's a bit rough where I live, and dodging cars is amazingly dangerous. I used to be a bike messenger for a short while back in the 80's, and it's way worse nowadays. NY is not all it's cracked up to be.

Also, I seem to have missed a comment. Minivelo's actually aren't very popular here in the USA. I just happen to be in the minority. I own a Lombardo Power2000 minivelo. Nice ride, but I need to do a few more upgrades on it. Definitely needs a better derailleur & such.
