H, I'm a 61 year old semi regular cyclist with a rarely used hybrid and a Carrera Fury mtb set up with adjustable stem to give a more friendly riding position.

I'm now looking for an E-bike to enable me to venture further afield. My riding consists mainly of tracks/rutted paths and some gravel. I like the larger tyres on my mtb as opposed to the 700cc on hybrid and a hard tail is fine. Reliability, low(ish) maintenance and range are key requirements. I have a budget around £2000.

Can anyone recommend a dealer near Welwyn area who has a good range and will let me try a few out? or even suggest some options?

Fitted a mid drive conversion on a carrera fury recently a easy conversion. made a very capable all rounder
Are you happy with the fury? if so you could get a mega range battery and a mid drive fitted for around £1k

The tsdz2 fits in place of the bottom bracket. You would loose the three front rings going to a single. The system is torque sensing, so multiplies the effort you put in, as opposed to other systems which use pas. These sense rotation of the peddles to give assist, so it is possible to ghost peddle if you get tired.
The motor drives through the gears so correct gear selection for motor revs is imperative.
Another option would be a rear hub. This would enable you to keep all your gears if you want. It would be pas and does not drive through the gears, so gear selection/cadence is to your requirements not the motor's.

Both are easy fits with basic cycle maintenance skills, you will need tools to remove the bottom bracket with either. Kits bought as one item come as plug and play though there can be individual niggles with each bike. Plenty of help to be had here.
Converting yourself gives you a bike you know well and, because they use generic parts, repairable should it be needed. The more expensive named brands use systems that are not user repairable and not even dealer repairable in the case of motor faults.

As an example a replacement Bosch battery will be well over £600 and can only be replaced by a Bosch battery.
A kit battery can be replaced by any battery,of the same voltage, or recelled for less than half the cost, depending on size.

If you like the ride you have I would thoroughly recommend converting with the caveat that it's addictive

Which kit/motor did you fit Peter? Are you happy with your choice?

The fury had a tsdz2 from china but you can buy the same kit from woosh in Southend Essex They will even fit for you
Have tried/fitted many mid drive conversions if you are a cyclist that just needs a helping hand then its the tsdz2
If lazy then a bafang bbs01 is the way to go

Any issues i need to be aware of with fitting tsdz2 to Fury? what battery would you suggest?

No issue its a quick painless other than to change the gear cable outer the hardest job is to remove the old pedal arms and bottom bracket ,this needs a special tool but is cheap to buy [or take to a local bike shop to remove]
The rest is bolt in with simple hand tools. woosh do a complete kit battery and motor the advantage is uk based and uk road legal
PSW power have a warehouse in Germany you might save a few pounds, the battery i use most is 48v 17ah which gives extended range

Thanks, so you replaced the gear cable entirely with a new one in sheathing and re routed? did you opt for a throttle or not?
