GP confirmed yesterday I have a hernia. I have been advised not to cycle (as well as not lifting heavy items etc). Bearing in mind the waiting list problems at the moment, this could be a long time without my bike.

Anyone still cyling with a hernia or got any advice please?

I have very recently been diagnosed with a hernia (Inguinal) myself and this is what's prompted me to buy an e-bike! My usual sport/activity of choice is kayaking which I did once or twice a week dependent on time of year. My Doc (who knows me well due to also being a kayaker) did not tell me to stop kayaking but manage it as best I could.

I have been experiencing discomfort whilst kayaking and decided to place it on the back burner for now due to the discomfort, seated within a tight kayak cock-pit for hours on end is not ideal with a hernia.

This is where I bought myself an e-bike to allow me to get outdoors and continue to exercise. My thinking with the e-bike was if things were getting a little tough or uncomfortable I would have the power to help me push through it and I would also be able to stop to stretch at any time which I could not do in the kayak. I had a short ride on a push bike before ordering the e-bike to see how I felt and can honestly say I was perfectly fine with it with no discomfort at all. Pretty much aware that this situation may change as the hernia progresses but happy to continue down this road until treated whenever that may be!

My advice would be to keep pedaling, if it gets uncomfortable then it's obviously time to stop, but until then keep at it :) .

Good Luck.

James.

Ps.

New e-bike should be getting delivered Monday :D Cube Kathmandu Pro.

Thanks James
I haven't had any problems on the bike either. I'll keep going and see how it goes.

I'd be surprised if there is a long waiting list for an inguinal hernia correction, it's generally treated as urgent. Don't be surprised if you get an appointment quite quickly.
