yes i could of coarse do it that way, but i fancy the challenge lol. now without going into detail and boring every one i ended up buying 2 hybrids in 2 days. so i'm also look buying a kit. thanks for that link

Billy, can you turn the bike upside down and take a picture where the sensor cable comes out of the bottom bracket?

i could and will, but be assured that the only cable coming from the crank is from underneath inside the crank, but i sort a picture out shorly. ive also had a look at the rack d8veh, i have a and looking how it fits cant see any issue as the Carrera as the rack fitments look the same, but if need be i can modify the rack. going out to take some pics now

You should check the length of the main trunk cable before removing the kit.

to be honest the wiring bothers me least, my job used to be an SPC controler and part of that was making and repairing quite complicated leads.
now this is more a guess and please tell me if im wrong, but weather the rotary censer is inside the crank or the one pictured earlier on here. im guessing the both do the same and measure peddle revolutions. so i dont think it would be that hard if need be to fit an external one to the Carrera crank.

Yes, the rotational sensor (we call them PAS, pedal assist sensor or pedal sensor for short) is inside it.
If you go back to the picture I showed earlier, the bottom bracket contains both the rotational sensor and a torque sensor. If a torque sensor is fitted inside, you have 6-7 wires on the cable, if it's not and only the PAS is fitted you have 3 wires coming out of it. If a torque sensor is fitted, you will also see two arrows imprinted on the BB left cup.

I'm pretty sure now with the help on here it will just be an internal rotary sensor. i will check when i take it out. if it is and it looks difficult to refit I'll go for an after market one that will fit onto the carrera cranks. the few worries i had are disapperning since i came on here

Whatever it is, you only have to drill a hole in the bottom of the bike big enough to thread the connector through. I've fitted a thun torque sensor, like the one in the photo above, to a bike before. Drilling the hole is no big deal. In fact i changed my mind about using it, so I still have the hole in the bottom of my bike. at least my bottom bracket bearings won't go rusty.

so to continue with my request for help, i'm buying a 500w kit tomorrow and cant decide which way to go. ive ended up with 2 hybrid's, both Nealy new. but both with slight issues for me as i tend to be in-between sizes and alwys end up with the seat really high or the seat really low. im 5ft 9ish, may be a long post lol

the first bike is a carrera crossfire 2, it was bought for my nephew who is 6ft 4 ive put the seat right down and maybe could may be squeeze another inch. i can touch the floor but not with the full flat of my foot. why buy a bike thats probably a little bike, price

the second bike is a nice, Boardman comp. this is a smaller frame and i have to have the seat high. when i check this bike i'm in between frame sizes. so i would have choose this frame.

i do tend to like a more upright position. so i have one kit 250w assisted which is what this post was about. but am going to buy a 500w and have a choice of rake or frame. so which kit should i buy and to witch bike should i fit them. i do have a preference to the boardman, but another thing ive though is i could persuade the wife to use one, and the Carrera is to tall for her. or is there a way to lower the Carrera seat ant more.

thanks for any views or opinions lol

Don't buy a 500w kit until you've taken advice on it here. that's in case you'e thinking of one of those cheap Ebay ones.

Don't waste your money on one if you have hills or stop-start journeys. You can get more power from a 250w kit if you choose the right ones. Those big direct drive motors have drag, which means more effort to pedal without power and they don't freewheel as well as a geared one, then add in the weight and you get a compromised cycling experience.

In case you don't know, the power rating of the motor isn't the actual output power, so a 500w motor isn't twice as powerful as a 250w one. Typically a 500w kit will have a 36v 22 amp controller, while as 250w kits are normally 36v and 15 amps, though some as high as 20 amps. The lower rated geared motors are more efficient for everything except constant high speed, so they can make more power than the 500w ones.

i see, i'm as i received this reply reading up on the legality's of the 500w. i think it seems a bit of a gray area. some are saying as long as you can restrict there ok, but what i'm reading there not as 250 is the limit for road use. i would be temped to use it in full power all the time which would be dodgy. can you recommend a good 250w kit.

I fitted the 250w kit from EBC and it does the job well, looks like standard Chinese parts so getting spare parts shouldn't be a problem, i was over 20 stone when I first fitted the kit and I was happy with the performance.
