Hello good folks,

For some strange reason my 3 week old bike (Wisper 705se) has lost all power. Happened a short way into a ride, pedal assist power cut out completely. Thankfully walk assist still worked so I managed to get back home in this sweltering heat!

Battery is fully charged, hubby had a look over and couldn't see anything obvious. Have left a message with the dealer, but he's off at a show this weekend so I imagine it'll be a while before he gets back to me.

Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem and could advise what I ought to be checking while I wait for him to call.

Thanks
Susan

If walk assist is still working, that excludes a fault most of the electric components and battery.

It could be the cadence sensor on the pedals not working anymore (not sensing that pedals are being used).

Hi Susan, sorry to hear about your problem. It may be the magnetic disc has been dislodged somehow. If you call your supplier they will be able to assist you.

If still not resolved please contact me on Monday and we will sort it out for you.

Best regards, David

Thanks for such a quick response Tomtomato. We had to leave bikes at home and went out in the car, so I'll ask hubby to have a look when we get back home

Thanks David, have left a message with David from EC but I know he's away this weekend. Will call you Monday if needs be, just a shame my bike will be out of action on this gorgeous weekend :(. But these things happen

Hi Susan

I spoke to your partner and as precious posters have suggested the problem most likely lies with the cadence sensor. We are near you tomorrow so will try our best to get it resolved then.

Kind regards
David

I had this happen to me once, I was cycling along a canal towpath which had muddy bits. It was intermittent at first but then just stopped working. It was mud on the chainring which was causing the problem, it seemed to affect the magnets. Anyway, I cleaned it off with a nice big docking leaf and the bike worked. Were you on a dirty or muddy path or road?

Have a look, it's normally the simple things that cause us grief. ;)

Well.... seems it was a faulty sensor, which (thanks to David, EC) is all now fixed and I'm back out and about on my lovely bluey :) Might be my imagination, but it seems to be going a lot more smoothly now - picks up on the pedal assist really nicely and the smile is well and truly back on my face :) As I've said before, it's important to have a local dealer who offers great after sales service, if that's possible of course (appreciating some folks have to buy online).

Great news Suseka, sorry for any inconvenience.

All the best, David
Thanks David, but it was no real inconvenience. David picked it up, kept it for a couple of days and then returned -so the 'effort' was all his :) It was just unlucky it failed on a ride out on one of the hottest days we've had this year -but I did manage to ride it 'unassisted' on the flat and push it with the 'walk assist' up hills on the way home, so proved I am a bit fitter than I thought :)

I don't believe it...nobody gives service like that these days :))

...mind you, when I think about it, a few years ago I had a Wisper, it developed a small fault and as I recall David fixed it over the phone.

I'm looking for a new bike, Wisper is not on my list, maybe it should be.

Yep... I was mighty impressed too and long may that continue :) If you're looking for a new ride, personally, I wouldn't count Wisper out -my hubby bought the 905se and he loves it. His knees are pretty bad these days (too much sport when younger; ignoring injuries etc. etc.) -so the SE version suits him well, especially for his commute. He does have one of those carbon fibre type road bikes too -which he likes to take out for a blast, when his knees are being a bit more forgiving.

David from Electrifying Cycles in Croma, Norfolk is one of the best. He has a great selection of bikes, including many brands other than Wisper. Most importantly he totally understands electric bikes and always recommends the best bike for the job.

Thanks David!

All the best.

I second that -and you can take bikes out on test runs. The area he's based has flats and hills, so you can get a real feel for the bike and make an informed decision. A must if spending around the £1,000 mark or more.
