Hi
I used to ride a lot when younger and want to get back into it but ive had a couple of operations on both knees. I'm looking to buy a bike that has both peddle assist and a throttle. Some bikes I like are:
1) Revolver 500 w - Cyclotricity
2) Woosh Big Bear -
3) Woosh Krieger -
I also like the look of the EBCO Urban Commuter UCR 30 but I do t think that this has a throttle on it.
I'm based in Chelmsford so it's quite easy for me to visit shops that sell the above in Southend or Colchester.

If there are any other bikes out there with better specs than the above I'd be glad to hear.

Thanks for any advice.
Cheers
Sean.

you will need a bike that can be on occasions used as a motorbike. That limits your choice a fair bit because most e-bikes don't have the throttle or the power. I would suggest you come to Southend and test ride a few. The Big Bear and Big Bear LS have a more relaxed ride. The Revolver 500W has a direct drive motor which is excellent for speed on flat roads but disadvantaged on hills due to lack of a gearbox.

Its also worth pointing out that at 500w its totally illegal to be used on the roads, so you are taking some risks should you choose to ride it on the public highway. Check with your life insurance etc etc to see what might happen should you be involved in an accident whilst riding an illegal bike, before buying one.

Hi mate, I visited Woosh bikes today at Southend and really enjoyed riding the Krieger. I didn't try the Bear as others have said on the forums that it's overpowered for me (I weigh about 10 stone). Maybe I should next time as I drove my car along the intended bike route and it's quite undulating. They have the Karoo arriving soon (2nd/3rd Nov) but to be honest I think it's now going to be either the Krieger or the Bear.

Thanks for the help.
Cheers Sean

at 10 stone the big bear is overkill, go with the much nicer looking Krieger instead

If I go for this bike, should I also fit a gear sensor? I've read that the motor should not be in use when changing gear.

if you really want too, i just use the rear brake lever like a clutch as you only have to pull it in a few mm for it to disengage the motor while not putting on the brakes all while carrying on pedalling

You Sir are exactly the type that is getting e-bikes a bad name. Dodgy knees and all that. These bikes are becoming associated with old folks whose legs don't work properly. Help us change this perception Sir. Don't tell anyone about your dodgy knees in future. Just go out there and buy any one of those electric bikes and no-one will be any wiser.

I thought this to be a poor reply , E bikes helps me greatly with my asthma and love off roading esp in all conditions all year round and would not other wise be able to enjoy the country side and freedom as I do. If you wish you can slate my view as well but its only your opinion.

Oh dear! I think you are more short of humour than you are of breath my friend. Did you really take my comments seriously?

Humour is never funny if one has to explain it, so in some ways it's pointless trying, but I'm going to do so for one reason only, to maybe allow you to see that my point, whether you understood it or not, was not a personal attack on you.

The facts are there is a stigma about e-bikes. The majority of the general public see them as being something that only, old, unfit people, would choose. The reality is somewhat different. As you make very clear in your response, they can provide a whole new world of fun and adventure for people like yourself who otherwise may not be able to pursue this. But they also provide a whole new world of fun for everyone, not just people who need a bit of help because of some physical incapacity.

My comments were intended to draw attention to this point, that e-bikes are for all and that you don't need a physical incapacity to qualify for one. I'm sorry if I offended you - that wasn't the intention.

Whilst my legs hold out I will wait until the "right" ebike becomes available.

I would like to change gear whilst stopping. Is this feasible?

Always looking for hub geared bikes. Then ebikes nearly became affordable.

PS: my pedal bike is very similiar to the Kreiger and the wear on the derailleur under pedal power is a continual problem. 3000 miles a year.
