Help with battery wiring please

A faulty pedal sensor will stop your bike from working, but it won't make the dispkay go blank because it has a separate supply from the battery. The display switching off means that the display is faulty or its power from the battery is being interrupted. If you had an intermittent short on the main battery wires (or lights if they run direct), the BMS would switch off power. It also switches off when the battery voltage goes down.

I tried the newer battery today on the bike and it worked as expected so my older battery must be losing power.

You might be better off taking the lid off and charging each cell through the balance wires. Sounds scary, it can be! have a look here for some inspiration. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/need-some-advice-recovering-some-batteries.16514/
