Finding my (electric) wheels

hi guys, I've been reading the form for a while and just registered as need to get myself some form of electric transport soon. I am in the Market for a good bike or a good kit for my own specialised mountain bike which I am very happy with. I have looked at all sorts of bikes and I must admit I am lost in all the different technologies bike suppliers and kist available. Any advice you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated as I have a few small questions that I'm sure the more experienced people on here would know the answer to.

My requirements: to commute 26/30 miles to work. I am not on a public road but a very deserted country path. (currently takes me around 2 hours and 20 minutes at an average speed of around 11/12mph. I am not that tired afterwards but I would really like to get there faster which brings me to my first question.

Question 1: how can I make my commute much faster? I see that most electric bikes just now are only giving assistance to 15mph which is the legal limit. I don't understand why this is as I've had my bike at a top speed of around 24/28mph by pedal power and small incline. Can you get kits that will assist you to get upto a much higher speed. I.e. If I'm pedalling at 15mph will the power of the electric motor help me to accelerate faster to around 20/25 mph would be ideal or do they all stop at 15mph and cut out when you reach that. Are you just left with pedal power above 15mph?

Question 2: what bike do you recommend based on my commute distance and the speed I need to maintain I have looked at juicy, Khalkoff, wisper etc and all these brands look good with good reputations and i have not dismissed them, but I'm more inclined to buy a bike which has a proven track record with quality that has been converted to electric as in the case of the cytronex systems. (I emailed them today and was told they are releasing a kit later in the year but I would like to make a purchase sooner than later).

question 3: if the top manufacturers use kits from the limes of bafang etc, why can't I just buy it and stick it on my current bike and where is the nest place to buy it from.

Basically I need a bike that I still want to pedal hard but will contribute to my top speed and will last for 26/30miles until I reach my workplace at which time I have 3 to 4 hours to recharge. Possibly I need 2 batteries?? And two chargers so I can have one at home and one at work.

ANY HELP IS TRULY APPRECIATED, THANKS YOU IN ADAVANCE FOR YOUR CONSIDERATE REPLIES

Hi Batfink,

Welcome to the forum.

If you are happy with your Specialized MTB, I would recommend fitting an eZee conversion kit.
It would give the range you require. As for speed, eZee kits can be de-restricted to give assistance to over 20 mph, but I must emphasise this would make your bike illegal to ride on public roads and cycle routes in the UK.

eZee are one of the top manufacturers of electric bike conversion kits and are renowned for reliability, performance and value for money in comparison to other leading brands.

Cyclezee is offering a 10% discount on all orders placed during July, this includes everything on the website. Kits have 2 year warranty. All prices include VAT and free delivery within the UK, the offer is for payments made by cheque, bank transfer or cash but not PayPal.

You can see more details on my website by clicking on the link below.

Hi Batfink
Our kits use the same components as our bike range so we have excellent stock of everything you need to build amd maintain your bike.
Spare batteries are 225 and chargers 29 pounds, available to purchase on-line.
Like Wisper and other main brands we use bafang motors which are extremely reliable.
Hope this helps.

Hello Mr Cyclezee, Do you provide a fitting service for the ezee kits, if so how much?
and I just want to clarify, if I order before July I can purchase the 14ah ezee kit for £805.50 (10% discount applied)?

Hi Bobbie,

The standard eZee kit with a 10Ah battery is £805.50 for orders placed during July. Upgrading to the 14Ah battery would normally be an extra £100, but again for July that would be £90. So you are looking at a total of £895.50 if paying by cheque, bank transfer or cash, but not PayPal.

My standard charge for fitting a kit is £100.
To let you see what is involved should you decide to fit a kit yourself, I can email an installation guide to you if you send me your email address by PM.

Hello guys thanks for your replies, what sort of average speed do you think i could maintain over my 26/30 mile commute with these kits? I think that the cyclezee kit is a little expensive as if I out another couple hundred I could buy a good quality bike with a decent kit already on. the juicy kit is a good bit cheaper but the website does not show the full setup just a picture of the battery which mounts on the seatpkst and the wiring, it does not show the motor. Do you supply batteries that mount on a rear rack for your juicy kit? And am I right in assuming that the juicy kit can also be derestricted as I'm sure I seen a bike advertised as being derestricted. Thanks Alex

Alex, the Jucy Kit uses Bafang Motors, as do the built bikes we sell. The same motors have been used by Wisper and others and are well-regarded. We think they're perfect for the job.
Derestricted speed is 18MPH.

Hi again Alex,

Comapred to other high end conversion kits like Heinzmann and Bionx, eZee is not expensive and offers excellent value for money. Fitted to your Specialized MTB and de-restricted you can expect 20+ mph.
Average speed is dependant on rider weight, rider input and terrain.
