Help needed with finding best e kit

My wife of 68 years of age has a 21 gear lightweight push bike and she would like me to put a e kit on it for her but i have a problem.

(1) the gear change is the twist type on the handlebars on both sides one for the gear chainring and one for the gears on the back wheel so i cant put a throttle on because of this so what is the way round this.

Next she want the best kit on the market for hill climing and a range of about 20 miles or more so again how do i work out what kit is good at hill climing also i would like a front wheel motor so hoping someone can help thank,s.

I would say an Ezee or HT BioniX kit....Have a look at the new Oxygen kit as well

I have the Wisper DaaHub (with thumb throttle) that I recommend but genral release has been delayed

Ask all if they have have a thumb throttle option. there is also the Alien kit which is good value....

My budget is about £800 i thought i could get a good quality kit at that price.

I'm not sure if they do a thumb throttle, but they have a switchable 9 power level EAF control which with pedelec means they don't need a twistgrip throttle.

Thank,s but how do i get over the gear twists on the handlebars is this thumb throttle clamp on to the handlebar on the other side of gear twist.

Our posts crossed David, see above for a handlebar mounting control. Thumb throttles might be a reach problem with both a twistgrip and brake lever.

Hi David,

With an electric conversion kit, you don't need 21 gears, so only one chainring is required, the largest, therefore you would not need the left twist grip, so a twist grip throttle could be fitted. If you want an eZee kit, we can also supply thumb throttles.

Thanks for the recommendation d8veh, but can I just point out we supply left hand throttles in the UK and Ireland and the changer you have shown is for the rear derailleur and mounted on the right of the handlebars. Having said that, thumb gear shifters are another solution to the problem and front changer could be used.

Incidentally, I have customer in Greece who wanted a right hand throttle and moved his right hand twistgrip gearchange to the left so it works 'backwards'.

I think it's a good idea to keep the gears, a common problem on electric bikes is the small gear range due to compromises when fitting the electrics.
Your £800 budget will get you a good kit as you have seen but the price can go quite a bit higher if you have money to burn.

Yes Mussels i agree with you i think all E Bikes should have about 21 gear because of the weight i went out on my E Bike on Sunday and covered 21 miles i would not like to have ridden it back without power . My wife would like a e bike but i would not buy her one as the gear range is to small on them that is why i am going to put a kit on her lightweight bike and i think it would be a better bike than what i bought although i am very happy with my e bike

Hi - Trek FX 7.5 but it wasn;t a kit - I put the components together myself.
